THE CASTING STORY

Casting Director Alan Luna of ABL Casting and our team reviewed self-tapes submitted by talented actors from around the world. And wow. The unreal talent out there made it a competitive casting process, forcing us to make tough decisions. A big shout out to all the actors who submitted self-tapes to AND ONE. We hear and see you!

We deliberated over the two families to reflect the diverse Filipino diaspora around the world. And the friends had to reflect the multicultural basketball community in California. We took our time and asked each other questions before we decided on the callback list. We met so many great actors in callbacks which triggered more lively discussions within our team. The casting of each character is a story in itself!

The Music 

The AND ONE music is written and composed by Reno Ursal with the help of his friends Grayson Villanueva (Turning Red 2022), Elvin Reyes (Classified Records), Edgar Guevara and Eric Agustin (Courageous Music).  The song "Relentless" is featured in our Teaser and performed by Marella Sabio, Martin Martinez and Jules Aurora. "Relentless" was inspired by his love for Filipino mythology and gives tribute to the Filipino goddesses Mayari and Tala. The other original songs include Praise Your Name, Reminisce, Fade Away and Follow Through performed in And One by various cast members. There's also discussion on other songs to be added to the mix! 

It's our hope you find the music catchy, melodic and memorable! With the music being all originals, we know it's a tough slide to introduce new music in today's market, but we are going for it with your help! Our goal is to have the melodies stay in your memory (in a good way). 

The Community Impact

AND ONE is a love letter to Filipino Americans and Asian Americans weaved through a universal coming-of-age musical drama. Is this a full-fledge musical? Some would say no. But that's what makes this film unique; It doesn't check the traditional boxes. 

We are one of many emerging films bringing inclusivity to the diverse tastes inherent in all movie audiences. Our film features Filipino American and BIPOC leads reflective of the Director's experiences, keeping the story's authenticity intact. And what better way to reflect this authenticity than through the universal themes of faith, family and music. And yes basketball!
