About the Filmmakers
Hello! My name is Tara Alexandra Brown and I am an actress, filmmaker, and Type 1 Diabetic. Our short film “And Yet So Far” is a psychological thriller that addresses the very important and often misrepresented challenge that is Type 1 Diabetes.
I am just one of the roughly 1.6 million people who are suffering from this disease in the U.S. and yet, there are very few films that accurately showcase the sinister nature of Type 1 Diabetes, especially in an action/adventure scenario. A diabetic must not only fight to overcome external forces, but far more serious internal forces as well.
But, this is not just a movie about diabetes. My team and I intend to make a film that has all the elements of a psychological mystery/thriller, but also a message that will resonate with a vast community. This is a story that has never been told before and one, that we hope, will make viewers rethink what is known about Type 1 Diabetes, but entertain them as well.
Producers:
Christiane Brown is a veteran broadcaster and an Emmy Award-Winning writer, producer, and director. She produced and hosted the “Solution Zone” from 2009 to 2014 on Air America Radio, KJFK, and the Progressive Radio Network.
Dave Ratto is a 9 time Emmy Awarding producer, director, animator, editor, and graphic designer. He is the CEO of ImageSync Incorporated.
Special Thanks:
Scott Brown is a senior architect and project manager at the University of Nevada, Reno. His skill with set design, sound, camera technique, and location management helped make this proof of concept a reality.
Dr. Nitesh D. Kuhadiya is an endocrinologist and internal medicine specialist. His professional opinion and insight have been paramount in getting our message across and establishing the very serious nature of a disease that is largely misunderstood.
What Is Needed
Due to the Covid pandemic, we need help to finance the remainder of this shoot and realize our vision.
Goal: $17,000
- Equipment: This is where we need the most help. My team will need to purchase/rent camera, lightning, sound, monitor, drone, and a skeleton crew
- Crew: We already have a director and cinematographer attached to the project who will need to be paid, but I will also need to hire sound and lighting professionals.
- Actors: I am going to accept deferred payment, but will be hiring 1 to 2 additional actors for the remainder of the film.
- Location: We intend to shoot again in the Reno/Tahoe area - specifically forest grounds where we will need to purchase a second permit for the remaining shoots.
- Post Production: Editing/music/color correction
- General Expenses: Gas stipends/craft services/transportation
- Festival Entry Fees: We want this story to reach a wide audience and will be submitting to multiple festivals this year!
The Impact
For the average healthy person, the "Rule of Three” applies. You can go 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food. With survival films like The Mountain Between Us and Into the Wild, the common theme of man vs. nature is compelling enough to make us, as viewers, think, “I could do that.” But, this genre excludes the some 133 million Americans who suffer from chronic health conditions. For them, the rule of three does not apply.
This film will be the first of its kind to flip the disaster narrative on its head by showing what could really happen to a person with a chronic disease when placed in a life or death scenario.
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP!
Any and all help is greatly appreciated! But, we understand that these are challenging times for everyone. Word of mouth is equally important! Please spread the word, if you can, to help build momentum and make this film a reality!
Increase your awareness of Type 1 Diabetes and the ongoing efforts to find a cure!
