Angry Women REvisited
Greetings! My name is J Dellecave and I am a Brooklyn-based performer, choreographer, scholar, and theater provocateur. My formal background is in dance, though I have been making experimental theater since choreographing jungle gym routines to Olivia Newton John songs (a long, long, long, long, long time ago). Since last May, I have had the utmost pleasure to work with the sublimely fantastic multi-ethnic, multi-generational, multi-disciplinary fifteen-person ensemble which has come together for this epic wild project. We have been examining the interviews of badass (and sometimes problematic) activists/artists of the 1990s, through the lens of 2014 ideas about feminism, and grounding our inquiry in the pages of the classic feminist text, REsearch Journal's Angry Women.
The performers/collaborators in the project are: Avi-Rose, Angela Beallor, Joshua Bastian Cole, Kate
Conroy, Gaby
Cryan, lizxnn
disaster, Roo Khan, daniel
rosza lang/levitsky, Sloan
Lesbowitz, zavé martohardjono, niknaz, Azure D. Osborne-Lee, Jenny Romaine, Zachary Wager Scholl and Alma Sheppard-Matsuo, with textile construction by L.J. Roberts.
We are a queer cast of dancers, filmmakers, theatre
makers, theatre scholars, visual artists, puppeteers, animators, musicians,
writers, and rabble rousers, across a wide spectrum of genders. The opportunity to work through important ideas with such a diverse cast is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We were fortunate to be selected for a performance at HERE, 145
6th Avenue, in Manhattan, April 3-6, 2014. The cast of Angry Women REvisited wants to be able to share all of our work with you and our audience, in its fullest professional capacity, and for that we need the funds to support this project.
(This production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE, HERE’s curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.)
$$$$$$$$$
- It is $2700 for us to rent the theater for our show. We have already spent $1500 on rehearsal space. The first $4200 raised as part of this campaign will go directly to cover these expenses.

Need a tarot reading? An outfit consultation? Some leather working? A massage? Some fine-tuning on your website? Kombucha brewing? One of the most exciting perks offered for this fundraiser is the $100 FEMINIST SKILL SHARE. The skill shares offered exemplify the vast array of talents this very special cast has to offer. Our ensemble offered up an impressive and wide array of skills to benefit this production! I recommend scrolling down and checking it out, there are perks from the practical to the luxurious. You can check things off your to-do list and support an artistic endeavor all-in-one! We offer various modalities of somatic and bodily practices, knitting and sewing lessons, dramaturgy (drool, drool), editing, illustration, baked goods, fundraising consultation, and lots more!!!
- Beyond the initial $4200, we are seeking professional services to support the exciting multi-disciplinary work that we have created. We want all of our hard work to be fully realized and documented professionally. Donate at the $200 level and sponsor a support service for our performance directly. Professional videography and photography will benefit each and every cast member when we further our professional and artistic project portfolios after the show.
- Every dollars counts--$1, $5, $10, $20, bring it on!!
Our Footprints
In the early 1990s, when I was an angry, queer, feminist youngster, my encounters with the book Angry Women profoundly shaped my sense of possibilities for making dynamic and world-changing performance. I loved this publication as a twenty-something and returning to it with more life experience under my belt has been invigorating, inspiring, at times challenging, and overall just as juicy as the first time. As part of the process of creating and performing our multi-disciplinary revisitation it has been rewarding to share "the book" with younger cast members, as well as with audience members who hadn't previously encountered it. Revisiting the artists and ideas from this book and their relationship to the
current political moment has enhanced all of our understandings of what a feminist/activist/artist looks like, and some of the issues that still need to be addressed. Our sold-out work-in-progress performance (at Dixon Place's HOT! Festival in July) sparked rich conversations and responses from our audience. We aspire for our full length performance of Angry Women REvisited to provoke even more. We consider this performance to be in reverence of the artists in the book, a celebration of not settling for the world we live in, a pushing of the boundaries of multi-disciplinary performance, and an example of what it might look like if we define things in our own, sometimes very contradictory, terms.Your contribution will directly impact our ability to present this material as a live performance and to have the performance documented professionally.
