Anino Lenormand
Anino is the Filipino word for “shadow”. The world of Lenormand is brought to life through shadow puppets, graffiti, ethnic textile patterns, doodles, and paper-cutting traditions. Playing card inserts appear as glyphs in the title border so as not to distract from the compelling multi-cultural imagery. This is a vibrant interpretation of the Lenormand that closely follows the standardized card meanings and icons so that Lenormand readers can take full advantage of it. Each card stands out as its own piece of art.
This deck began as an “art block” therapy for me. As such, it holds a special place in my life. I have been having difficulty consciously making art – but have no difficulty in drawing doodles. I resolved to turn these doodle sessions into art-making sessions, and, after four months, the Anino Lenormand was born. The art is the result of an organic, almost subconscious method of doodling – I let my mind wander about while at the same time keeping the image’s function in mind (the key figures in each card have to be readily recognizable). I was not afraid to make mistakes because these mistakes eventually ended up incorporated into the patterns in the images. The influences for this deck are wide and varied: shadow puppets, graffiti, ethnic textile patterns, doodles, and paper-cutting traditions.
Lenormand is 36 card cartomancy deck that features key images linked to specific playing cards. It differs from tarot in that its readings rely more on the dynamics of how cards are associated with each other. It also tends to produce quite practical readings, so it is a really good method to use when divining everyday life mysteries.
About Anino Zodiac Freebies
Printing a poker-sized deck with 37-54 cards costs the same. I have already intended that the deck have three extra cards (the Man, Woman, and Child cards), and thought it a shame to put the extra cards to waste. By then, there were 14 extra cards left (36 cards for the Lenormand deck, 3 extra cards, plus a title card). Upon the suggestion of a friend, I opted to turn 12 of these into zodiac cards which can be used in conjunction with the Anino Lenormand or as a separate oracle. The two remaining cards will contain the keywords of the Lenormand cards.
About Paraluman Studio
I am Lynryd-Jym Narciso. Paraluman Studio is the main output for my card and ephemera art and design. I have been creating card art (cartomancy and ephemera) for over 10 years. To me, doing card art is something like working on an entire art exhibit. When I create a deck, it is like creating miniature artworks tied up together by a theme, to be exhibited to an audience. It feels much the same way when I buy cards – I open up the box and hold in my hands an entire exhibit’s amount of miniature works of art.
My body of work is unique in that each deck I do has a radically different theme and look from each other. I am drawn to the “taxonomy” of Art – how one style is different from another, what these differences are, etc. This passion for art taxonomy is reflected in my art where I try to give each deck I create a unique look and feel. Sometimes, when I am inspired by an art period or an artist’s body of work (for example Art Nouveau or the art of Amedeo Modigliani), I process the vibe I get from experiencing these works, and create my own take on the style. In a way, my art is also my your way of exploring different cultures, modalities through using the cartomancy patterns I cherish to achieve new levels of understanding and insight.
Some of my past works include Tarot Bagong Sining, Tarot of the Curious East, Tarot of the Lepidopteran People, Tarocchi di Marcelo Inciso, the Moody Lane tarot, Tarot Resom, Tarot Rikit, and Tarot Whispers at the House of Dusk, just to name a few.
I have also created Tarot ng Daigdig sa Balintataw for Adam McLean's independent tarot press. I am also the creator of the Vanessa Tarot, published by US Games Systems, Inc., and the upcoming Tarot de Marseille inspired deck, Tarot de Maria Celia, to be published by US Games Systems Inc.

Why Crowdfunding
Print-on-demand printing for cards is a relatively expensive affair. The goal of this campaign is to make the deck more affordable to those who would want to acquire it. Plus it allows me control to present my work the way I want you to experience it.
On Funding
The target funding goal for this campaign is a modest $3,500 – this will roughly cover a little over one hundred decks. At such an amount, I am hoping the deck will be able to get printed at a much affordable rate.
Here are the deck’s specs:
· Poker sized cards - 2.5” by 3.5”
· 310gsm “linen” black core playing card stock
· its own custom printed tuck box
· Two cards which list the keywords for each of the cards
· PLUS 12 free zodiac cards which can be used in conjunction with the Anino Lenormand or as a separate oracle deck.
As this is my first, I want to keep this a really simple campaign – no bells and whistles, and focus is more on delivering the actual product to the backer. As such, there will only be three tiers for pledges: $25 is an early bird promo for the first 20 backers for the deck – this is for a copy of the deck, $30 is the regular price for a copy of the deck, and $55 gets the backer 2 decks – this is especially great for collectors who keep a copy of their deck in mint condition.
The deck may be available on demand some time after the campaign, but their prices will definitely be much higher than what is offered in this crowdfunding campaign, because per-piece on-demand printing prices are generally high. As I mentioned earlier, I wanted this campaign to be an affordable means for people to get a copy of the Anino Lenormand.
Risks & Challenges
As with any venture, there are risks involved. I try to minimize this by using an “all-or-nothing” Fixed Funding type of campaign. I won’t receive any of the money from the pledges until the campaign reaches its funding goal. Also, the printer will fulfill the orders by directly sending them to each of the backers’ addresses. The goal is to eliminate any third party involvement. The funding goal also incorporates a modest buffer amount should there be any mishaps or problems in the campaign.
Other Ways You Can Help
You can still help me even if you do cannot pledge for a deck or two. I would greatly appreciate it if you share this campaign to others. There might be some of them who might be interested in the Anino Lenormand. This will help me reach this campaign’s funding goal. Any little exposure and publicity helps, and is greatly appreciated.
Feel free to message me if you have any inquiries about the campaign. Thanks!
