we know what you are thinking: anything with the word poop sounds like a strange idea. Have no fear! You won't have to gather feces from your bathroom or your pets dropping outside... (actually please don't do this), but instead from your pet fish!

No fish? No problem! AquaJar comes also with hydroponics nutrients, so you can grow herbs and plants without needing a fish. It's that simple and so much fun to do!

AquaJar is an introductory household aquaponic or hydroponic system that doesn't require electricity. Who thought a Mason jar could grow plants? That’s exactly how aquaponic and hydroponic farming works. Let's check it out:

Combining a fish and plant we create a perfect eco-system of life. The fish poops, which is used as fertilizer for the plant. The plant in return cleans the water. This system mimics how our oceans and lakes naturally clean themselves.

Yes, it's that simple. Now, you might be wondering what type of fish and/or plants & herbs you should use, right?

Pretty cool huh? Now let's introduce you to how AquaJar can be used as a hydroponic jar.

With both systems you can sprinkle seeds on top and see it sprout, or transplant a seedling.

Both ways will works, but for more immediate results, we advise the transplant. It's super easy, fast and the system begins working right away! For classroom settings and for teaching children about plants and ecosystems, we advise planting seeds.

But wait! There's more! We have discovered a way to help prevent algae growth by using natural barley extract to help reduce unwanted algae that plagues all types of fish bowls and aquariums. In fact, it’s completely safe for the fish and helps improve root growth. Just add four (4) drops once a week. It’s that easy!

And that’s still not it! We have also included a sun shade for placing your AquaJar on a window sill. The shade helps the barley extract in reducing the growth of algae, while providing your fishy friend some shade. By using both together, you’ll protect the water quality further and reduce the need for maintenance even more. The shade is easy to remove if you want to view your jar without it during the evening or on cloudy days.

Since introducing our video and photos, we have received feedback from fans asking us to introduce a larger jar size. Check out our larger Mason jar dispenser as a reward to simplify water changes and increase space for the Betta fish. For you Mason Jar lovers, this is very cool!

Every project has a story and so does ours.

We are Ethan, Robert, Aleks and Julie. We met as international students and fell in love with aquaponics systems. We immediately understood how important these systems are for the future of sustainable farming and are passionate about introducing simple and elegant solutions to people of all ages. Out of the many benefits, we would like to highlight a few:

It all came about when visiting an aquaponic farm in Maine, USA. Inspired by the business and young farmers, we wanted to spread their knowledge and with their advice began developing AquaJar. 

Our goal. It all started in Prague, where we assembled and distributed 11 jars to testers who played a big role in the development of AquaJar.

This was followed by a second round of testing with 17 jars in both the U.S and Poland, where two of our co-founders were living.

And now we understand how this type of farming can solve hunger issues, water waste problems and more. As global citizens, we can spread the word to help support new solutions like aquaponics. To do this, we need your help.

The team has decided to spread the word through Indiegogo. We've used our own savings to develop the AquaJar system and are asking you to help us bring the AquaJar to homes and classrooms across the world by sourcing components from the best suppliers and assembling the kits in elegant eco-friendly package.

We are in need of hitting our final stretch goals, allowing us to start developing a solar panel sun shade to power accessories seen with electrical aquariums. We want to bring you the future of eco friendly aquatics!
