Where were you when it went cold outside?
MONTREAL, ARABIA.
Opening with an exclusive one-night launch on December 2nd, the exhibition will showcase collage works, installation art, paintings, protography, and calligraphy by mother and sisters Sundus Abdul Hadi, , Tamara Abdul Hadi , and Sawsan AlSaraf and by brothers from another Tunisian mother eL Seed and Karim Jabbari. Musically curated by Montreal's own The Narcicyst, you are invited to a world where your freedom is in question, your countries are in limbo, your identity is in flux, and your dreams are put on ice.
“We plan to present you our rendition of the First day after the storm. Come with your boots and walk through the Arab street. If you could freeze time, which questions would you try to answer?” says The Narcicyst.
EL Seed adds “this is not a regular exhibit – you will leave Montreal and be transported to the streets of Tunis, Damascus, Iraq, and Cairo.”
Come join us from December 2rd to December 24thfor the first ever collaboration of local artists from the East under the banner of world-renowned Graffiti convention connoisseurs Under Pressure.
The exhibition launch will take place on December 2nd at 7 pm at the Under Pressure Fresh Paint Gallery located at 180 Saint-Catherine East.

We are currently planning this show to shed light on the realities in the streets of Arabia. As much as the fervor and fever of the so-called 'Arab Spring' has caught on, we are looking to 'weather the storm'; contemplate issues of the past and establish the questions we need to ask ourselves about the future. What is it like the day after the revolution? When the dust settles, who will help us clean up? We want to present a balanced and beautiful approach to the ugly nature of war, displacement, identity and misrule for the last decades in Arabia. With the #occupy movements picking up in the West, and the revolutions coming to a close in the East, where are we headed next? Our artists are all visionaries from the Arab World that use their talents to humanize and present a balanced and informed ideal of what we have to plan for our children, without force feeding you the food for thought politicians do. We want you to leave our space thinking 'What can I do to help answer these questions?'
Community is the basis of all we do. It is what we are asking for from our systems. It is what we need to survive. As young Arabs from around the world, the only way our voices can be heard, is through coming together. This project aims to set a new standard for 'experiences' of art, and build on the idea of a growing international community under artistic umbrellas. We hope to set the template to create a tour of this work, and invite people from all over the world to help us grow, live, and build a productive artistic environment together.
We need funding for many reasons, to get this rolling as fast as we can. Can you help? Our launch is on December 2nd so it's creeping up!!!
PRIZES: If you invest $100 or more into our campaign, you will receive a free limited edition signed print on canvas from el Seed or Sundus Abdul Hadi. If you invest $50 or more into ARAB WINTER, you will get a WinterBag with CD's, books, and Arab Winter Garments. The more you give the more you get.
Installation + Art Materials: We need to get spray cans, canvases, paint, and all the colorful things you can imagine we need to make this an experience you won't forget!
Invitations + lodging: The more funding we can achieve, the bigger we can make the project and the more international heads we can invite to be a part of the experience.
Creating the space: We are hoping to bring a car into the gallery, and use it as the center piece to our revolutionizing of a vernissage. We need help carrying it on our back and putting it in the space.
Organizing Month Long Activities: We will have film screenings, panel discussions, live shows and interactive set ups for the people who visit us. Help us create a multitude of events that will knock people's socks off and have them walking barefoot through our motherlands.
FUND RAISING: Whatever extra funds we receive after all is set, we hope to donate to the people of the world in need, so the more we make, the more we give.
Help us get the word out far and wide to galleries across the world!!! Your word of mouth is stronger than the might of any politician. We need you as a part of the international community!
