Why do we need your help?
Professional development seminars provide important opportunities for individuals in any field to improve their skills and learn from their peers. However, for the English language teachers of Arkhangai province in Mongolia, such opportunities are virtually nonexistent. Our province has some of the best and most enthusiastic English teachers in the country—but the high cost of travel means few can afford to participate in educational training seminars, the majority of which take place in the capital. Arkhangai Laboratory School #1 wants to tackle this challenge by hosting our own local teaching seminar.
The goals of the seminar, open to all of Arkhangai’s (60) English language teachers, will be to:
·Foster collaboration and strengthen the network of English teachers in the province
·Develop and share new, creative teaching methods
·Improve skills in key areas, including creative & critical thinking, resource development, and classroom management
Your contribution to this seminar will help our teachers deliver the highest quality language teaching possible, and in turn enable our students to achieve all that they’re capable of!
What We Need
To host our local Teaching Development Seminar, we need to raise $720 USD (just $12 per teacher, or about the cost of three grande lattes in America). Funds will be used to develop and print content for the workshops themselves, as well as to provide resources such as reference and activity books that teachers can take back to their schools. A small portion of the budget will cover the cost of meals during the seminar.
The Impact
English is a vital skill for students in an increasingly connected and globalized world. Mongolia is developing at a break-neck pace, however there is still a lack of opportunity for some of our best and brightest students. To travel or study abroad, to work for international companies, or to simply fully utilize the internet, they must learn English. We hope our students will grow up to help Mongolia develop and to change the world, but they need our assistance! By providing them with the best language learning experience possible, we are opening doors and giving them access to opportunities they might not otherwise even imagine.
Other Ways You Can Help
We understand that not everyone can contribute money to our seminar. But you can share this page with your family, friends, schools, co-workers, and everyone else you know. Help spread the word and raise awareness—the more people who know, the easier it is for us to reach our goal of $720!
