Because of the destruction of his planet by the Gigantic Chimera, the little alien Gédéon, narrowly escaped his galaxy to find another place to live. After travelling for years in the intergalactic space, his spaceship run out of fuel and crashed on a strange and wild planet named Kapiata where a wild and primitive tribe lives, the Atakapus. This planet turns to be as dangereous as its habitants and many dangers are hidden in the shadow of the Kapu Mont, a colossal volcano.
Gédéon will be to collect atomic fuel and pieces to fix his ship in order to quickly escape to find a safer place to live.

Atakapu is a 2.5D speedrun oriented platformer videogame. The main gameplay is based on a switch wich allows you to choose between different costumes that will give you special abilities. For the moment, there are two types of gameplays: the Agility and the Attack mode. The concept of our game will be to switch gameplays during the game so that at anytime to can adapt to the environment, platforms and enemies you encounter.
The goal of every level is to finish as fast as possible with the maximum of orbs that give you points.
At the begining of the game , Gedeon has no costume and he can only do single jumps.
After you have passed the level 1, you will unlock the agility costume for Gedeon and you can now play him from level 2.

The next costume that you will unlock is the attack costume.
Take note that if you are in agility mode, you can wall jump, double jump and grapple but you can't attack or dash enemies. In the same way , if you are on attack mode, you can't use abilities from agility mode. The timing of the switch will be important in certain situation to obtain the best time and score !

* One of our ideas is to create creature levels in which you'll be able to ride a cute creature and rush levels specially made for it.

We dream and wish to continue our project and launch our first game. We need your help to achieve this project. We truly believe in Atakapu! This project is our baby and we will raise it until it will become a fully grown up video game! And it will be so much cooler if you all help us and show us your support!

At this time of the development we already have 3 playable levels with online scoring. We already implemented the agility costume wich is fully functional except for the grapple wich still need some tweaking on the code. Right now we are focusing on the improvement of the attack costume, on new gameplay mechanics, on solving the bugs and on graphics.

The planet Kapiata where our main character crashed is actually our level selection menu. There you have the possibility to see the top 3 of each level (on the right), your better score (on the left) as well as the switch mode to get to the "time attack" mode and an access to the general ranking ( Y or R).

As you can see on the top of the selection level menu we already implemented two different game modes so there will be two general ranking, one for each mode.
On the Normal Mode the score is based on your time and the amount of orbs you collected.
On the Attack Mode you score is only based on your timing so hurry up!
Once you have finished one level on normal mode, you will automatically unlock the time attack mode as well as the normal mode for the next level.
For our main menu we decided to bring out the magical ambiance of the planet Kapiata and to allow the players to see all the 2 main characters of Atakapu and all the costumes in one place.

The level design has been made and thought for a speedrun and dynamic gameplay. You will need to be accurate on you jumps, double jumps, walljumps, attacks and dashes to save a few seconds and beat your friends score!
We would also like to make an addition to the HUD and create a complementary pannel wich will show you if you are winning or loosing time compared to your best time. It's a common thing to see in speedrunner or racing game and we think it might be great for you to see your progression in game.

Haaaaa! We finally can introduce you to the Atakapus! Those little creatures live on Kapiata the planet where our main characer crashed. The Atakapu's are not really friendly with strangers and might even be dangereous for anyone coming from an other world. Too bad for you! Now they are after you and will try to stop you by any means they have in their possession. Luckily for you, you also have some great weapons on your side as your costumes and abilities! You will be able to fight back or even dodge their attacks if there is too many of them!
At this time of the development we already have two versions of the Atakapus:
The Range Atakapu: This one uses his blowpipe to throw poisoned projectile at you!
The Melee Atakapu: This one charges you and tries to kill you with his spear!

We would like to had some levels with bosses. We already did some graphic and gameplay researches. One of the sketches that we made has been selected and here is our first boss project. He is not in the game yet but he will be with your help!
This boss is a lava creature who has been tamed by Atakapus and who will fight for them to protect their planet. He is gigantic and has large paws that you will need to avoid if you don't want to die in horrible pain. He also has large spine and tail spikes and will use them to hit and hurt you. We don't know yet but he also might be able to spit fire like dragons.
Those attacks are just ideas at this time and we still have plenty others to make our game even cooler!

We have some great ideas for the future of the game. Here are some of them:
We would like to create an aquatic costume which will give us the opportunity to make underwater levels. This costume might be an other version of the attatck costume and will allow you to dash and throw bubbles at new ennemies.
We also thought about adding a ghost of your best time in game. This will help you to know where to go and how to save time compared to your past times.
An other idea is to create creature levels in which you'll be able to ride a cute creature and run levels specially made for it.
There is also a project to create an infinite level in the great volcano, Kappu Mont, where you will need all of your strenght to go as far as you can.

The first challenge encountered is that we are unknow from video game industry and therefore we don't have a big community behing us to follow and share our game. We are currently working on our communication and to continue to expand our community.
An other challenge is that we are trying to make rich 3D environment while our gameplay is only 2D by adding depth to our scene. It demands to spend more time on the creation of each new level because we pay attention to every details of our environment. We already have good feedbacks for the graphics in our game and are proud to offer enhanced environment.

We are a young belgian indie team who just graduated from a graphic design school specialized in video games and located in Namur, Belgium. We are actually creating a video game in a team of 5 under the name "FrostyFroggs".
Our game "Atakapu" was our final school project and right after being graduated we decided to continue and try our dream come true: make a video game and create fun!
