Hello!
We are third year Goldsmiths students: Ella, Xiaoxuan, Harry, Fehim and Chloé, working on our final short film for our screen fiction course. We are excited to share our campaign with you - as we are eager to go shoot "Automaton".
Meet the team:
Director & Writer: Ella Brolly
Ella has experience working on independent and feature productions within the TV and film industry and has written and developed several short's for screen. She is a passionate creative and loves writing, singing and the odd chacha on a Saturday evening. Having grown up in Scotland, she is really exited about her original script for Automaton and cant wait to take the cast and crew up to home turf to see it come to life!
Producer: Chloe Wallace
Chloe isn't used to producing as she is a new talent director for production company CANADA (lawebdecanada.com). But while studying her last year, she decided to get on board and learn the pros and cons of being a produce. Born in 1994, Wallace likes coffee and jazz and has never been to Scotland so is very excited!
D.O.P. & Co-Producer: Xiaoxuan Zhu
Editor: Harry Kitson
Sound & Sound Design: Fehim Tasarkan
Fehim is a person who rock and rolls all night long and sleeps every day. He has experience of directing documentary style projects and likes to be nerdy on computer with games and music. Also, he is a singer and has a band in Cyprus for 5 years and he's really thrilled to add his musical approach in our film project.
We want to create an appealing story that visually attractive and exciting.
After the death of her father, Eva returns home to clear out his possessions and attend to his life’s work; his automata. His passion for his mechanical clockwork figurines was one so great and all-consuming that he lost sight of the most fundamentally human part of himself, he neglected his love for his daughter.
Automaton is the story of Eva’s appropriation of her grief, and her journey through her father’s archives.
This project has been inspired by concepts of philosophy and spirituality. It engages with the internal choices and decisions we all have to make in life, despite our own setbacks and judgements. Most interestingly, we have adopted a stylistic technique of narrative storytelling, a dialogue between the past and the present, and an alternate mode of juxtaposing audio and visual.
We will be shooting up in beautiful Scotland this coming February, however we need your help to make this happen -
What We Need & What You Get
Because we want to shoot in Scotland we are going to need to cover travel costs to get there for the whole crew.
Your money will also go towards essential basic needs in a filming: the stay of the crew, energising meals and tea to keep us warm.
It will also help us cover important things such as production design (props that help us) and costumes which will help create an in depth and interesting character.
Risks & Challenges
It is going to be a difficult shoot as we will be working on a tight schedule, in the cold and in another country. Everything has to be scheduled, timed and prepared to try to avoid the challenges we might find.
We have location, catering and props set up in the beautiful Morayshire, Scotland. All automata to be used in the shoot are extremely delicate and are considered to be rare and marvellous antiques. Therefore, it is crucial for us to handle them with care and to have sufficient funding to ensure safety and security on shoot.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you don’t have the money to contribute to our project, any help such as spreading the word and making some noise is greatly appreciated. Maybe your friends can help us!
