THE WOMEN OF NEPAL
The harsh, steep nature of the Himalaya, increase the physical hardship of normal daily work, consequently overwhelming women’s workloads.
Social norms and gender ideology restrict women's mobility. Making it difficult to access services, education and work opportunities. Further increasing health problems, poverty, vulnerability to violence, and conflicts.
The Three Sisters Guiding Company is a breakthrough in solving these inequalities for women in Nepal through their guiding agency and their NGO, Empowering Women of Nepal (EWN). They’ve created training programs to teach local women the necessary skills for trekking and guiding. Gaining self-confidence, many have become guides or joined the workforce, overcoming many social disadvantages.
Providing work, education, and stability for local women, Three Sisters have become a guide for future generations by demonstrating that women are mentally, physically and emotionally as strong as men.
