Short Summary

A widower empowers himself to live a more fulfilling life after the loss of his wife but every choice has a consequence.

"Reginald West - and his journey of self-sacrifice - is whole-heartedly inspired by my own grandparent with whom I have a very strong relationship with. I am all too aware of the disconnect between the older and younger generation today, so this film is almost an homage to her and how much she has sacrificed for children (her own and others) no matter the consequences.

With your help, we can bridge the generational gap between the young and the old - if only for a moment. A moment in time can last forever on film."

- Jasmin John (Writer/Director)

Meet The Team

We are a highly dedicated team of young professionals, skilled in our crafts. More importantly, though, we are passionate about this project being a success, so much so that we are all working on a voluntary basis.

Writer/Director - Jasmin John

Jasmin is a freelance filmmaker based in London and has worked on projects for companies such as GHD, Landscape TV, Vidsy and Youth Media Agency as well as London Live and Verge Magazine. She is a BRIT School graduate and is now studying a BA Hons in Digital Film Production at Ravensbourne.

She has written and directed a number of short films, one of which received a Special Mention at I Filmmaker International Film Festival 2015 and won a Golden Obie award for Best Short Film in 2014.

“Symbolism and poetic imagery ripple throughout Balloon as the story unfolds with clear thematic resonance. There is so much to learn & explore on this journey - so join us as we embark on it."

Concept Artist - Mihrisah Karasu

Mihrisah is a freelance concept artist, illustrator and animator from Brussels, currently studying Science of Arts. "Drawing always makes me feel calm and peaceful. It is the moment when I fall into a utopia and bring everything in me together. Some people might find my art too dark or pessimistic."

We disagree - this is why she fits perfectly within the Team Balloon dynamic. Her incredible talent turns the characters - who were once only words on a page - into a visual concept.

Producer - Jameisha Prescod

Jameisha - best known by most as Jam - is a documentary filmmaker by trade. She is a BRIT School Alumni who has worked for a number of clients including GHD, Verge Magazine, Elizabeth Acevedo and Landscape TV, whilst also working on her own independent documentary projects. She also works as a feature writer for film website So The Theory Goes and is currently studying Digital Film Production at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication.

Marketing and Promotion - Sinead Simpson and Karen Ajuga

Sinead previously studied media at A-level for which her work received federation-wide accolades whilst Karen runs her own catering service and social media is her first point of call for customers.

“From recently starting up a YouTube channel to my active presence on social media, I know how important and powerful social media is in influencing others. It provides a platform that allows individuals to not only create something magical but to experience and be a part of it too. This film truly will be magical and not something to be missed.” - Sinead

"Social media is a great marketing platform. It enables you to target your niche with ease and promote your film effectively. With this ethos in mind, we will work our hardest to make sure Balloon gets the marketing and distribution it deserves!" - Karen

Editor - Shaquilla Alexander

Shaquilla is a video editor and motion graphics designer, creating content for clients such as JD, Zealous, Global Service Jam and T! Magazine alongside studying a BA Hons in Editing and Post Production at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication. Passionate about film, she also founded film website So The Theory Goes to share in its storytelling with others.

“There is a darkness and mystery to Balloon and in many ways, a lot of symbolism and hidden clues for the audience to pick up on. We know we can make this come across in post production, but first we need your help!"
