With it's signature two-band system and highlight colors, Barebands is unlike ANY watch you've seen before. And the ease with which you can swap parts in and out means you can customize the watch to match your style... whatever that is.

How BareBands Came to be...
It’s mere minutes before I’m going to leave my apartment to compete in the 2012 New York City triathlon… and I am terribly out of shape and underprepared.
Like a maniac, I am double-checking all of my gear as if that will make up for the months of training I skipped. In the process, I manage to rip my watchband, the one thing I really need for the race (besides divine intervention to carry me across the finish line). In a MacGyver-inspired instant I swapped in two broccoli bands from a bunch of broccoli in my fridge.
The watch face was yellow. The bands were green. It looked cool. But more than that it was super comfortable. Super light. And there was no sweat build up under the bands after I huffed my way across the finish line. The bands were barely there. And in a few hours the product inspiration and the name for my company, BareBands, were born.
Watch me explain how the watch came to be in a segment I did for Fox Business Network.
The Product - How Does it Work?
At the heart of the BareBands system is the band, inspired by the thin broccoli bands I used for the race. These are custom designed soft-touch silicon bands made in multiple sizes to ensure a snug and comfortable fit on different wrists. They will come in infinite colors. And of course are customizable for your favorite team or cause. In the next couple of weeks, we’re actually going to be releasing a bunch of custom bands to support some causes we care about.
We innovated a metal rail, which looks awesome on its own, but is actually a docking mechanism that mates with a groove in the back of a watch. It slips in and out super easily, forming a snug fit.
And then there is the shell, which you can pop on and off for color accents, and also locks the rails in place.
We kept our first design purposefully retro, with octagonal face and digital display. It felt right to pay homage to my old favorite watch that inspired Barebands in the first place. We've left a nice thick bezel around the edge of the watch as a canvas for artist collaboration... And customization.

While customization and color are obviously our calling cards, we haven't sacrificed in the least on quality. Every part of the watch has been rigorously tested and each watch is waterproof to 30m.

The Styles
Right now, we have seven styles of BareBands. You can see them below and more details on our website. (Note that two of our watches are in need of names! If you pledge a donation, you can vote on what that name will be!).

Fundraising Platform
If you choose to support BareBands, not only will you be supporting the creation of an awesome, never-before-seen watch, but you’ll also be helping create a new platform for fundraising that benefits from placement on the wrist and adds functionality and fashion in the process. As referenced above, once we’re fully up and running, we’ll have specific watches dedicated to specific causes. For example, if you buy a pink watch to support the fight against breast cancer, a to-be-determined portion of your watch cost will go to that charity. The same would be true for a blue watch to raise awareness about prostate cancer, and so on. Or, using tools we are planning to integrate into our site with funds from this campaign, you can build your own custom watch to support your own cause/community/team.
Why are we Raising Money?
The good news is that our first batch of watches is READY TO SHIP. You can be confident that if you back our campaign, your watch will arrive soon. But we need your help to close our funding gap. See, manufacturers have what are called "minimum order quantities". This means I can't just buy 1 watch, or even 100 watches... I have to buy 3,000. The faster we get commitments in, the faster these watches will be in your mailbox.
We also need funding to scale up our personalization tools so you can personalize every single aspect of the watch. Enabling all that customization costs money.
Last, there's technology. We, too, have been paying attention to "smartwatches" and
"activity monitors." With your support, we'll be able to continue to
innovate and make the latest watch tech available to you. And our
modular system means that when we do, all you'll have to do is slide the
old piece out and the new one in. Easy peezy.
Spread the Word!
In addition to backing this campaign, we need your help getting the word out!
Tweet about BareBands. Facebook about BareBands. Email about BareBands. Draw a picture about BareBands. And then Instagram it.
We have built a fun watch that you’re going to love wearing and which will allow you to customize it over time. And, more than that, we’re trying to build a brand that wraps all that fun and self-expression up into something meaningful. Be part of BareBands from the beginning. Thank you.
