What's The Story?
Beyond the Living follows Brandon, a troubled man, who is having difficulty adjusting to a society that he views as shallow and stale. To escape, he spends the summer hiking throughout the southeast with his two best friends, Claire and Krishna. The days turn into weeks and Brandon’s mind sinks further into anxiety and fear as he experiences the deterioration of the veil between our world and the world of death. Through visions/hallucinations Brandon journeys deeper and deeper into this otherworld until it crashes into our own existence and the three hikers find themselves fighting for their lives.
Beyond the Living has one foot firmly planted in the horror genre, with its monsters and scares, while the other foot stands in the world of art house cinema, with its existential journey and questions on mortality.
To help describe our vision for this movie imagine combining Gus Van Sants "Gerry" with Ken Russells "Altered States" mixed up with HP Lovecraft.
The Power of You
We are trying to make an artsy creature feature with vfx for very little money. Currently we are budgeted at just under $40,000. We have $25,000 already so we are looking for another $15,000 to get us there. If we don’t raise the money, we will still be shooting the feature and all perks will still be delivered, but we will have to go back and make drastic cuts to the film that will effect the overall quality. We are already in preproduction and we will continue to move forward until shooting begins August 18th.
How The Hell Is This Gonna Get Made?
The majority of it is being shot in the woods of North Carolina where we will be using natural light with the aid of bounce and flags. We are only lighting the interiors and night scenes and already own or have access to most of the equipment. Our big costs are crew, talent, props, creatures/monsters, and vfx, but with aid of the amazing people listed below...it's doable.

Major Obstacles
SHIT HAPPENS
- It's hard to plan for the unknown, but we are committed. Creatures are currently being made, plane tickets have been bought, some crew has been hired, we have gathered up most of the equipment, I sold my house, moved, and a shit load of talented people are working for peanuts, or the promise of peanuts that they realize might never come. We are doing this.
WE DON'T MEET OUR GOAL
- Indiegogo gives us what we made and we still make the movie.
- You will still receive your perks.
- You will still get the download of the finished feature.
- We will make drastic cuts to the budget that could effect the quality of the movie. This might make the movie horrible
- It might be so horrible that it's really fucking funny.
- It's a win win.
Other Ways You Can Help
Besides being the wonderful you that only you can be, you can also help by spreading the word. Tweet it, Facebook it, get a tattoo. Honestly, the more people that see this the more likely we will reach our goal.
But I Want To Help More!
Seriously, thank you. Thank you for your desire and commitment. Do you have a skill, a location, do you want to invest? I'm very friendly, and I would love to hear from you. Even if you just want to say "hi". Go for it.
