What's Black Cat Ice Cream?
My name is Alex Carter, and I am the
founder of Black Cat Ice Cream. I am a pastry chef in Des Moines, Iowa that has
spent the last couple of years working on creating the most amazing ice cream possible. I use organic sugar, the freshest dairy and eggs produced on small farms in central
Iowa, as well as other locally produced ingredients. Black Cat Ice Cream is “top shelf” stuff.
While my career as a pastry chef has
so far been brief, I have won a State Fair blue ribbon for baking, and my
desserts have been featured in The Juice. Aside from being pastry chef, I was also a
finalist for Best Artist in Des Moines in 2014 and 2015. I am taking that creativity and artistry and
making the best ice cream you will ever taste!
Des Moines is an up and coming culinary city. I want people in the future to say “Oh when you are in Des Moines you
have to go to Zombie Burger, Fong’s and Black Cat Ice Cream.”
With your help I am going to build
Black Cat Ice Cream into a Des Moines staple.
So What Do I want From You?
I’ve got
the recipes perfected, I have the menu and I have the bare bones equipment. I
have my local suppliers lined up. What I
need now is help from you. After announcing the creation of this business I have
been asked “So what is this? Are you opening an ice cream shop, or what?” I
would love to open an ice cream shop right now, and if I were to raise enough
money to do so through this campaign, I wouldn’t be mad! But what I am doing is starting small and
growing from there.
My plan is to sell ice cream cones
and pints from an ice cream cart at local farmers markets, festivals, and with
the other food trucks in the streets of Des Moines this summer. I also have
interest to sell it at some local retailers and restaurants. That will one day grow into a physical location.
Now is where you come in. Did you
see the movie “Chef”? It was a great movie, but starting and operating a food
truck and selling food isn’t as simple or cheap as they make it look. The fees to be a food vendor in
the streets of Des Moines are almost $1000. A basic cart is around $1200.
Insurance is $185 a month, fees to be able to sell at farmers market are $300+
per farmers market. It all adds up
quickly!
I am raising money specifically to
help cover these start up costs. Every dollar raised, weather the goal is met or not, will go to those costs. Every spare cent I have will also be going
into getting this ice cream ball rolling. We can do it together!
What's In It For You?
By helping me cover upfront costs, I
will repay you with ice cream. SO much ice cream! I cannot wait to get my ice cream to you!
Seriously.
I've held a few tastings and common responses
to tasting Black Cat Ice Cream are “Oh. My God.”, “Holy sh*t”, and “That’s the
best thing I’ve ever tasted”, as well as a lot of dumbfounded faces. I have put together a number of perks for
supporters that will guarantee you get to enjoy some truly amazing ice cream this
summer! If you donate to this campaign, you get ice cream! It's just that simple!
I am extremely passionate about this, and am confident about the chances of this being a success. Des Moines has no "go to" local ice cream maker. In years past there was Reeds, and I hope to follow in those footsteps and beyond by making the worlds best ice cream right here in Des Moines.
Thank you for your support. Let's do this!
