BLITAB is a next curve Braille device for reading and writing that displays one whole page Braille text, without mechanical elements. It is like an e-book which instead of using a screen displays small physical bubbles. They rise and fall on demand, composing a whole page in Braille code without any mechanical elements.
But this is not enough. We want to bring this technology to more people in more counties, to test and improve it, to build a global community committed to further develop and create a world more accessible and modern for everybody.

The high-tech
era and modern electronic devices, e.g., laptops, tablets, e-readers has left behind blind and visually
impaired. This is due to the fact that visual display units are the heart of
all modern communication and information systems including the Internet. This
especially affects those impaired individuals in the technical fields. The IT
sector appears to lack a comprehension of the unique strengths and challenges
facing blind people.
BLITAB will make the World more accessible.
We are creating a movement, a global community of scientists, developers, advocates, designers, translators, artists, and more. We want you to be part of this movement and to put your brick in the wall in integrating blind and visually impaired in the high tech today.
We don't just want you to back the campaign though, we want you to join our community and be a part of making history.
BRAILLE Devices
In general the Braille note takers
currently developed represent a classic type of assistive technology product: with only one line Braille text, no
enough power for audio editing, scanning and recognizing print documents.
Braille note takers are closed platforms, so what you see, is
what you get. There is little
if any possibility for the expansion of the software and capabilities of the
device. In addition it is very difficult for the blind person to make a buy decision because Braille
notetakers’ price ranges from €4,000 to
nearly €10 000.

At the moment blind users use at first point voice recognition due to many reasons. But do you know how many disadvantages they have?
Much more than you think: reading e-books almost impossible, having private life without reading passwords to everyone-impossible, having personal experience- none, having another option to use - no.
BLITAB does not want to replace voice recognition function but to extend it and to present another much more valuable feature in one innovative unit. Moreover BLITAB is going to have voice over for users that would like to use it.

BLITAB finally resolves the problem of transporting printed Braille books over the world because of copyright issues. Moveover all of the latest course books, novels and reports can be purchased and downloaded in the device.
Children and students with sight loss can finally have access to latest technology, to learn and study efficiently.
BLITAB Features
Blind people can feel and read Braille message but also compose a text using approved Perkins-style keyboard. But not only this, our accessible design allows a direct Converting of any text file into Braille code from USB sticks, Memory Cards, Web browsing and Obtaining information about the surroundings via NFC tags.
Just imagine to put your USB Stick with the latest novel and your blind friend will be able finally to read it with the help of BLITAB.
But only the innovative hardware is nothing without powerful software services behind it. That a real-time chat communication platform was implemented. It connects BLITAB with the other users.

We also jump to the next curve and develop a standalone GPS positioning system that navigates and guides blind users to any place they what to reach.

All this is feasible due to the innovative technology based on Life Science smart materials that allows for the first time a large scale refreshable Braille display to be created. Together with one of the leading technology partners in this area BLITAB can be produced. This is the reason why we are already in patent procedure.

The BLITAB Story
Three years ago when I was a last year master student
at the Technical university of Sofia, a colleague of mine sitting next to me
asked me to sign him online for the Innovation management course. I did it . But after that I realized he was blind.
For the first time, I realized that something
which is given to us, sighted people, by default turns to be a big challenge
for others. But blind people wouldn’t give up the technology we have today. It could allow
them to lead a grateful life.
This was the trigger… how we started developing a device that will involve blind and visually impaired in the modern social community we live today.

Impact HUB and Social Impact Award Team were the first people that believed in the project. They helped us scale and form an active community worldwide.
Where we are in development
BLITAB evolved. We have changed many concepts until we came up to our current user friendly solution.
The Alpha prototype will present a large scale Braille e-reader which will automatically translate any text document resp. e-book into Braille code.BLITAB is a tablet device that does all the things we claim. We currently have a design prototype . We have all of the materials and technologies ready, technology partner and experts to ensure BLITAB is up to our ridiculously high standards.
Now we need your help in order to produce the first Alpha tablet with one of the leading technology partners in this area worldwide.
