About
At its core, "Blue Hour" is a simple story about unrequited love, told in a nuanced and subtle manner between two close friends. If you've ever experienced liking someone who just couldn't feel the same way about you back, this is a story you will relate to.
Mel, our protagonist, plans to confess her feelings to her close friend June. June, on the other hand, reveals that she's leaving town the next day. Both are forced to confront the elephant in the room before the day comes to an end.
Creator
Hello! My name's Fiona, and I'm the Writer, Director, and Producer of the short film, "Blue Hour".
This is a passion project I've wanted to make for three years now, and I couldn't be more excited to make it into a reality. I've studied filmmaking at USC, worked at notable production companies and studios to watch how the pros pull off large feats, and of course, produced, written, and directed several shorts along the way that have honed my craft (and thankfully) screened at 25+ international film festivals - all preparing me to finally do the right job on this project.
In January of 2021, "Blue Hour" was a recipient of the 2021 Wave Grant - a grant focused on helping first-time, female or non-binary filmmakers of color with the production of their first short documentary or narrative film.
This grant helped solidify kicking off shooting "Blue Hour", and with it we were able to shoot the bulk of production!
Post-Production + One Pick Up Day Needed
The awesome news about this project is that we've already gone through the main portion of shooting - We have **AMAZING** footage, and the story's already coming together well in the first cuts we've made!
Problem is, we can't move forward into sound design, coloring, mixing, or even finishing the edit without getting those necessary pick ups to wrap up the last shots for production and get us through Post.
$6,000!
Truth be told, we need a bit more than $6,000 to ensure we can pay for all of the festival application fees we have set, but with this we can get SO much done and make sure to get the first wave of applications covered too!
Here's a Pie Chart articulating where and how the money will be divided up and allocated!
If we don't reach our goal, what we raise will go towards the re-shoot first to ensure we grab the footage and have that part of the process complete, and then slowly move forward in concession from finishing to pay the editor, sound designer, and so forth piece-by-piece based on what I can work and afford to pay for after.
The guitar and sound is a huge element of this film, so I've themed all of the Perks after different guitar brands! (yes, music nerd here:)
All of the different tiers for donating come with super unique perks - from a curated playlist, to a Director's Master Script Breakdown, a 1 minute guitar riff I will make up and play for you, a guitar lesson, a BTS and Memories Photo Journal that I'm designing with our phenomenal Set Photographer (Emily Krisky!) that will included: Stills from the BTS of Production, Frame Grabs from the film, Script Excerpts and Storyboard images, all the way up to AP and EP Credit!
(please note: Blue Hour Photo Journal will be relatively smaller than these as it is a short)
Festivals this Film will be Applied To:
I have a comprehensive Excel sheet with over 30 festivals this film will be submitted to - here's are a few of the big reaches we're going for!
The Impact
Some of my favorite films include, "Her", "In the Mood for Love", and "A Lady of a Portrait on Fire". However, I seldom see these kinds of nuanced storylines depicted between two young adults, when we experience so much growth in our early years. For this reason, I set out to make a film with a deeply moving emotional core between two actors around my age, done with a high-quality production standard in order to give the film's subject matter the same professional gloss and weight in sincerity as the films that move me.
