“There is no greater sorrow than to recall our times of joy in wretchedness.”
― Dante Alighieri, Inferno
What is Bolgia 6?
Bolgia 6 is a student thesis short film currently in development by students at Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy in the heart of downtown Chicago. The film is an introspective narrative drama focusing on the experience of Kevin, the film's protagonist, as he struggles to balance obtaining all he desires with maintaining what he already has. He has a wife, Emily, and a ten year old son, Jimmy. Kevin has recently received a promotion at his desk job, though, and it seems that things are starting to look up for him and his family. Bolgia 6 draws inspiration from ancient mythology, which serves to illustrate the age-old nature of its message. We have all had to face choices that seem like they are taking us down the right path only to find out that we were taken farther than we ever meant to go.
What We Need & What You Get
After extensive budgeting that takes into account all of the necessary equipment, locations, and expenses, our Producer has determined that this film will require around 3,000 dollars. Being able to offer pay to the actors not only encourages emerging actors to really bring out their best performances, but attracts more experienced actors to the project. Along with that are the incredibly expensive cameras and rigging equipment, permits for shooting locations, set dressings and costumes, and you can see how the list goes on and on. For helping us be able to afford these luxuries, you can view the list of perks to the right for something as simple as a personal thank you on a social media platform, to something as huge as being invited to the premiere of the film and seeing your name on the "Executive Producer" title card. If we aren't able to make the entire goal, concessions will be made on equipment and set dressing. If we are lucky enough to surpass our goal, we would end up using Hollywood Cinema quality equipment such as Red Epic cameras, as well as improve the incredibly important aspect of craft services for the cast and crew.
The Impact
Although Bolgia 6 is the brainchild of writer Samuel Johnston, it has been lovingly adopted by a crew of extremely passionate students. Each of them has been studying at Tribeca Flashpoint Academy for the last year and a half, focusing on a particular aspect of filmmaking to master. Director Brandon Phipps has made 3 shorts, 6 music videos, and 2 documentaries in the last year alone. Producer Tony Frei has Executive Produced tons of pieces, from commercial spots to entire corporate trade shows. With countless pocket-budget projects under their belts, these students and the rest of the crew are ready to really step their game up to the next level. If the film is truly able to live up to all that they are willing to put into it, it will be submitted to film festivals across the country. This means that the cast and crew are capable of not only winning awards, but the recognition of industry professionals.
Other Ways You Can Help
Even if you aren't personally able to donate to the campaign, please share this with anyone you know that enjoys films! Which should be everyone you know. The more people that hear about this campaign, the more we can get under our wings to really achieve all of the funding we need. Not only would it be incredible to actually get all of the money we need, but the more people that talk about the film and share links to the campaign and all associated social media, the more likely it is for industry professionals to take note of the work being done here. Every member of the Bolgia 6 crew has been a stand-out in their field at the school and are really going to be able to shine in this film, which should begin paving the path for them being a stand-out in their field in the real world. So please, share this as much as possible and keep your eyes peeled for the premiere of the film! Production stills and Behind the Scenes footage will be posted regularly to the Bolgia 6 Facebook and Twitter, so stay up to date on the crew and the state of the project by liking and following those pages respectively. Thank you so much for your attention, your time, your donation, and your support!
