Getting Idle Motion to Edinburgh Fringe
Hello everyone,
We are seeking your support to take our two pieces of original, visual and devised theatre ‘That Is All You Know’ and ‘Borges and I’ to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this Summer. Following a hugely successful preview at The Lowry in Manchester, this will be ‘That Is All You Need To Knows’ first outing at the Fringe, whilst ‘Borges and I’ will be returning, revised and re-developed, since it’s Total Theatre nomination in 2009.
That is All You Need to Know' will be on at ZOO Southside (Main House) from the 2nd - 24th August (not the 11th or 18th) at 17:05 and 'Borges and I' will be on at Pleasance Two from the 19th - 25th August at 13:20.
This is very exciting but we still need your helping in raising production and accommodation costs. Edinburgh Fringe will be a huge springboard opportunity for Idle Motions portfolio of work - a chance to bring back to the Fringe the show that first put Idle Motion on the theatrical map, whilst also showcasing the companies 5th and most exciting show to date.
“A brilliant emerging company, inventive work with strong storytelling at its heart... this physical theatre ensemble have a bright future.” Lyn Gardner, The Guardian
About the shows
That is All You Need to Know tells the story of Bletchley Park, an eccentric country house which housed some of Britain’s greatest minds in WWII. Alongside Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman, thousands of gifted men and women worked in secret to break the German Enigma Code.
Decades later, as Bletchley’s secrets begin to be revealed, another group of groundbreaking volunteers gather to save the home of the Enigma code breakers. Using personal testimony, multimedia and inventive staging, this is an insightful, innovative and immersive celebration of the people whose hidden heroism changed the course of history.
Borges and I explores the life of visionary writer Jorge Luis Borges and his remarkable work. Integrating creative stagecraft, innovative video projection and beautiful physicality, hundreds of books transform into a plethora of images, from a flock of birds to a city skyline, from an airplane to a universe of libraries.
Moving seamlessly between the worlds of Borges’ work and his readership, the play reveals a vivid portrait of a man on the brink of blindness. Intertwined with this narrative is the tender story of a couple meeting at a haphazard book-group, brought together through their shared love of literature.
Why We Need Your Help
Despite fantastic support from Arts Council England, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is not eligible for Arts Council funding or funding from most of the major private arts foundations. We are responsible for covering production and accommodation costs from other sources. The cast are wholly committed to the continued life of the show and will be working throughout the month of Edinburgh ‘in-kind’ and without payment. We are really committed to keeping ticket prices low, to make the show accessible to as diverse an audience as possible, and to engage and capture our audiences.
Edinburgh is a wonderfully rewarding yet expensive venture to undertake. That is why we are seeking your support to raise £2,000 which will go towards
- Accomodation
- Venue Hire
- Transport to the Fringe
- Production costs.
Your support, on whatever level you could afford, would mean so much to us.
Thank you so much for reading this.
