Synopsis: The story is about a computer scientist Adam, who along with his longtime mentor Dr. Webber, has created the world of the future. They’re on the brink of creating the world’s first intelligent android; an android whose sole purpose will be to serve the human race but an anomaly in the system is hindering its completion. Adam’s job is to find and fix the anomaly before the investors arrive to keep his lab running. Things get interesting when we realize that Adam’s 5 year old daughter is a critical element in finding the anomaly. During the anomaly experiment Adam discovers a mysterious secret about his android, he never knew existed.
Thus, in an attempt to
understand the anomaly in his intelligent android and finish his experiment,
Adam is forced to play a game of chess to uncover the truth.
Is the truth hidden in the game? Will the anomaly finally reveal itself?
Are we ready to accept this
alternative future?

Production Design

Brain in a Box is a hard-core science fiction short film, aiming to set up an alternate universe where androids and human beings could co-exist. The two main characters although present in the same room are separated by a glass wall. They inhabit two different worlds. Adam, our human protagonist lives in a 1940s steampunk universe, technologies on his side are old-fashioned. He along with his colleague has invented the world of the future. Eve, our AI test subject, lives in that futuristic world, with advanced technologies on her side of the room.
Therefore, the production design is an important factor to make the cinematic universe believable. We would love to create a unique sense of characters in a dramatic and visually striking fashion. We plan to build the set in a sound stage, rent all the necessary props from prop houses all around the Greater Los Angeles area. The current estimate of production design cost is $2,000 USD, which means most of your generous contribution will directly affect the look of the film!
Transportation
Brain in a Box will film in Orange County, California, 30 miles away from the capital of world entertainment: Hollywood. However, we do need necessary camera equipment and props from Hollywood to make the movie convincing. We estimate $500 will be spent on truck rentals for us to get the useful equipment from the vendors to Orange. Your generous contribution will keep this film moving!
Distribution
Brain in a Box is a film we treasure greatly during our graduate film years; it is a product we will be putting forward as we enter the industry in the coming years. We will definitely submit this project into film festival circuits aiming to garner a bigger audience.
