Children see glimmers of themselves reflected in each story - their dreams, worries, struggles, and strengths - and realize .... I can be brilliant too!
With dyslexia affecting so many people (up to 20%!), we need to be talking about it. Brilliantly Dyslexic empowers parents, teachers, librarians, and peers with an understanding of dyslexia and an appreciation that everyone has different struggles and strengths. And that’s a beautiful thing.

Dyslexia doesn’t show up much in children’s stories. This is a problem…because we all need stories that make us feel seen. When we find those stories, it’s powerful. In the space of three pages, we see ourselves and our lives differently. Maybe it’s possible to do that thing I’ve secretly been dreaming of. Perhaps it won’t always be this hard. Maybe being dyslexic isn’t just an OK way to be…maybe it could be a fantastic way to be.
If you're a kid who struggles to read and write, it’s a HUGE deal to you. And, you need to see that feels-like-it-defines-my-whole-life thing reflected in the world in a positive way. That’s what Brilliantly Dyslexic is about.

This is me, Liz, and Quinn, my brilliant + dyslexic daughter. We created Brilliantly Dyslexic.

Struggling with reading and writing, Quinn often felt like she didn’t measure up compared to her classmates. When I started telling her about some successful people with dyslexia, she lit up. She was surprised. How could it be that someone could be both dyslexic and ‘smart’? The more I shared with her, the more her perspective seemed to shift. Perhaps her difficulties weren’t meant to be her whole story after all.
While there is a lot of information online about amazing people with dyslexia, we couldn’t find something designed for children. So, I started writing. We read the stories at bedtime, and Quinn kept asking for more.
Seeing the impact these stories had on my daughter and me, I began to wonder: What if this situation isn’t unique for us? What if we made this a book for the many children and parents who are looking for stories that they can find themselves in?
After 2 years of writing, editing, and working with illustrators, we can’t wait to get this book into your hands.
