Hi, I'm Christine Caruso, and I am producing a documentary about Corky the killer whale, a killer whale that was captured at a young age and who has been performing in theme parks for the last 48 years. I want people to know that Corky is an intelligent, sentient being, who was removed from her family to perform in theme parks, including SeaWorld. My hope is that as people learn her story, she will one day be brought back to her home in British Columbia where she can spend her remaining years in a whale sanctuary where she can be cared for and where she can once again enjoy the ocean.
But, I need your help to bring Corky's story to the world! Help fund this film and be part of the movement that recognizes that dolphin theme parks with captive dolphins performing for entertainment and profit are no longer acceptable. Help fund this film and be part of the global awakening that orcas and other dolphins deserve to live free in the ocean with their families. Please help fund this film so that the world will know the story of Corky the killer whale.
The Bring Corky Home documentary will tell Corky’s story beginning with her capture at Pender Harbour in Canada in 1969, her early years in captivity at Marineland of the Pacific, and her current-day captivity at SeaWorld San Diego. Researchers, scientists, ex-trainers, children, and more will lend their voices for Corky in this educational documentary. Corky surpassed her 48-year anniversary of her capture, and she is the longest-held orca in captivity.
Footage will include the heartwarming mile-and-a-half-long Corky Freedom Banner created by children from all over the world in the late 1990s. The Banner has thousands of messages of love for Corky and hopes for her return to her home waters in Canada where her Northern Resident Killer Whale family frequents and is studied by researchers and scientists. Interviews will include information about the unique culture, dialect, and social structure of the Northern Residents.
You will see Double Bay on Hanson Island in Canada, which is a possible sea sanctuary site for Corky. You will learn about other sea sanctuary projects that are currently being planned and developed for orcas, belugas, and dolphins, which leads to the exciting possibility that Corky and other cetaceans can be retired to sea sanctuaries to live out the remainder of their lives in a more natural habitat under human care.
The Bring Corky Home documentary will be a feature film that we will enter in film festivals. Maybe one day our film will be on Netflix streaming and listed in the category "Top Picks for You" and you can say, yeah...you got that right!
Your donations will help cover the costs of production, editing, color correction, music, rights and clearances, website, film festival costs, promotion and events, distribution, travel, DVDs, and much more.
Thank you for your support! Thank you for donating and sharing this campaign!
