Short Summary
Solar Rollers, a non-profit energy education program, develops engineering design concepts at the high school level.
Competitive, creative high school design teams are racing to build and design the fastest,
most efficient, solar powered remote controlled racecar. Utilizing only the power of the sun, the teams
will compete in technical knowledge, endurance with solar power only, and
good old fashioned competitive racing
This award-winning program is already well
established in Colorado. The Solar Rollers are looking to grow into Texas. I would like to
see it extend its reach to the high schools in Austin area for the 2015 season.
There are at least 8 high school teams actively interested
in developing in the Austin area already.
To make this program really
take off, the Solar Rollers are looking for several sponsors that are interested in renewable energy, engineering design,
electronics, and construction of R/C solar powered cars and the arrays to power
them. The standard solar R/C race kit typically with all components start out around $1,000. Each school is encouraged to fund raise to earn this. We also need sponsors for the Trophy Race Event, about $11,000.
Who am I?
Anthony Parker is a local high school student at Khabele Strong in Austin Texas. I was part of the group of students who
helped launched the Solar Rollers program in Carbondale, CO, in 2012. I then organized and led my own high school
team last year. Now I would like to lead
the way in launching this program in Austin, Texas. Building the Solar powered race cars was not only fun but I learned advanced mathematics, physics, engineering, design, teamwork, and the list just goes on and on. But the bottom line is we are the future of the world and we are looking to you, the current leaders of the world, to help us.
What We Need & What You Get
- We need the $11,000 simply to pay for the Race Day Event.
- Even if you can't give much to our cause, every dollar counts; and we will thank you profusely if all you can do is support us.
- Your sponsorship will he honored on our Web site and on the Game day program.
- The top 5 sponsors can hang a banner on Race Day at our event.
- Until our $11,000 goal is met nothing can be done with solar powered racing in Austin. The money you so generously donate to us will be placed in an escrow account until the goal is met.
The Impact
- By donating to start this project you will be making a considerable contribution to the education system. We high school students, are so in need of things to do that are fun yet complicated.
- As a highschooler you don't get many chances to make an impact, so I helped create the Solar Rollers program to impact the lives of Hundreds.
Risks & Challenges
The biggest risk is that we are unable to begin this project for the 2014-15 year. We will have to aim for the 2015-16 year instead.
My biggest challenge is that I may run out of time to personally check on each team and answer questions.
After we have been generously funded, the Solar Rollers program will eventually reach out to a total of four states. With a goal of all the high schools in the world that this doesn't seem like much. But I am confident that with your help we could extend our reach across the globe.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't donate, no sweat, spreading the word to your friends and family is another way you can help. If you support this project you don't have to donate to get listed on our websites as supporters of innovative education. Thank You.
