Bruno Hubert
Bruno is a true original. A unique and beloved voice on the Canadian jazz scene, he has exciting news: this year (2023) he is going to record a new, long-awaited album! Bruno will come together in recording sessions later this year with his current and longest-working trio that includes master Vancouver-based musicians James Meger (bass) and Joe Poole (drums).
As an original member of the Brad Turner Quartet, one of Canada's most esteemed jazz groups, Bruno has been nominated for numerous Juno Awards and recorded many albums over the past three decades.
A genius colourist of the jazz standard song book, his surprising arrangements and conceptions have continued to evolve and expand. Like a fine wine, Bruno’s artistry only gets better with age.

Throughout his colourful career, Bruno has worked with many legendary jazz greats and musical personalities—Joe Lovano, Norah Jones, Dee Daniels, Denzal Sinclaire, Mike Allen and Gino Vannelli to name a few.

Bruno has maintained a working jazz trio going back to the late nineties. Originally this included Brad Turner on drums and Andre Lachance on bass, and together they recorded two records for Cellar Live in 2002 and 2008.
The group has since evolved, in terms of both the players and the music. For the past seven years The Bruno Hubert Trio has been composed of Bruno, James Meger and Joe Poole. They are one of a few jazz groups who have continued to collaborate as the same lineup over such a duration.
Their longstanding work together has allowed them to develop a rare level of intimacy and communication—producing music at once fertile, innovative and rooted in the deep nuances of jazz tradition.

What We Need & What You Get
Here is what the campaign is aiming to achieve:
- We want to raise $10,000. This will cover recording fees for Bruno, James and Joe; for a recording engineer, piano tuning, mixing and mastering; for marketing, production, communications, design, distribution, and more. With this amount, combined with other funding sources, we will be able to make the record a reality and promote it to a wider audience.
- Contributors will have the opportunity to not only get a physical record (CD + digital) signed by Bruno, but to attend the actual live recording—and even get your name on the record itself.
- If the campaign gets less than $10,000 we will do our best to still make a record but adjustments may be required. Rest assured we want to see this record made as much as anyone.
The Impact
Being a professional musician is never easy. And with the way the world has gone recently—the pandemic having closed down venues, the advent of digital music streaming services and AI-based “music”—it has gotten even harder.
If you love real music made by real humans, it doesn't get any better than the Bruno Hubert Trio. Humble and unselfish, Bruno has dedicated his life to his music and you can hear such a distinct and beautiful voice telling a true, compelling story through music, accompanied by two veteran musicians with their own unique voices and mastery.
Those who have ears to hear know what a gift this is to the world. Making this record will help us share the Bruno Hubert Trio to a wider audience—capturing Bruno’s genius with those musicians who know his music the best.
As a contributor you will make a big difference for Bruno and be part of Canadian and jazz music history!
This recording will be made over two days and will allow a small audience to attend and hear Bruno on a world-class Steinway grand piano. The engineering will be by one of Vancouver's best recording engineers and the music will be distributed by a well-known jazz record label.

Risks & Challenges
While we are not trying to send Bruno to the moon, there are a bunch of elements that need to come together. We need to pay three amazing musicians for two days of recording. We need to get the piano tuned. We need to get the recording gear into the performance location.
These are not major logistical challenges, of course, and our production team has done this many times before. The main challenges are getting enough funding to cover all elements of production, distribution and marketing.
Our first step is to raise our goal amount ($10,000) even if it takes a bit longer than 60 days. This could delay the recording release by a few weeks or even a month or two.
One way or another, we are very confident we can make a great record in 2023!
