With your support, the National Building Museum hopes to make its largest installation ever a reality. With the goal to open from July 4 to September 7, we want the BEACH to offer visitors the chance to participate in a quintessential summer activity without the risk of sand in their suit or getting a sunburn. We've teamed up with Snarkitecture, a Brooklyn based collaborative practice, to make this a reality. Now all we need is your help.
#TheBeachDC
With your generosity, the National Building Museum will be able to construct the BEACH, fill the “ocean” with nearly one million white plastic balls, and equip the “shoreline” with chairs, umbrellas, and beach games. We will even have a snack concession operated through a partnership with Union Kitchen, a D.C.-based food incubator. If we surpass our goal, the Museum will be able to host many more public programs, family activities, and community outreach events in association with the BEACH.
Why crowdfunding? Support from individuals and corporations accounts for 33% of the Museum’s budget. We rely on generous donors like you to support our acclaimed exhibitions and education programs. Learn more here.
If you would like a different name on a ball than the one associated with your shipping address, please contact dbridges@nbm.org.
Thank you to Ditto Residential for its generous support of the Museum's first crowdfunding campaign and the BEACH.
What We Need
$1 gets us 5 balls to fill up our Great Hall (we're aiming for around 750,000)
$100 gets us an umbrella for the BEACH (we're aiming for 4)
$1,000 will staff one late night event at the BEACH
$5,000 for walls surrounding the "ocean"
About the National Building Museum
The National Building Museum is a private nonprofit 501(c)3 that receives support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and grants. The Museum’s mission is to advance the quality of the built environment by education people about its impact on their lives. Learn more about the Museum here.
Have you heard about the BIG Maze? The centerpiece of last year’s Summer Block Party at the Museum, the BIG Maze saw over 50,000 visitors and 2 marriage proposals in just over the 2 months it was open. We hope to make this year’s installation the biggest attraction yet.
Aloha!
