BALINTAWAK ESKRIMA, VOL II

Friends:
This is the second edition of my book Balintawak Eskrima - my first-hand account as the oldest living survivor of Grandmaster Anciong Bacon. I am a passionate and avid promoter of this indigenous Filipino Martial Art, Eskrima/Kali/Arnis. A significant portion of my life has been dedicated toward its advancement - starting as a student over half a century ago, then as a teacher, a historian and chronicler of group events. My peers insist on calling me grandmaster. My preference is the less pretentious term guro’ for teacher. Otherwise, I would rather be called Manong Sam, a fond and affectionate term of respect and endearment accorded to an older brother or older gentleman.
This book is a brief compendium of Philippine historical facts. It is also a definitive record of a history of the art, its masters and legends - its foundation, techniques, principles, philosophies and a glossary of common eskrima lexicon. Likewise included are our shared hopes for young masters and the future of the art. This book will contain a plethora of illustrative and historical pictures. It will be an expansion of the current edition, to appear most possibly in two volumes.
