WHAT IS CAMP REEL STORIES?
Only 16% of decision-makers in the film
and television industry are women. Help
us change this by giving young women
a voice and the opportunity to change
how they are represented in film,
television, and digital media.
Camp Reel Stories
believes
that when women and girls are better represented behind the scenes in the media, they
will be better reflected on the screen. Camp Reel Stories is a non-profit
summer program designed to empower 13-18 year old women with the skills to
create their own media, to view current media critically and thoughtfully, and
to aspire to leadership in their field.

WHAT ARE YOU RAISING MONEY FOR?
The vast majority of applications that we receive
include a request for financial aid. At Camp Reel Stories, we believe that the
diversity of our campers is essential to the completion of our mission - to better
represent women in the media, both behind the camera and in front of it - and
that means maintaining a balance of campers from many different backgrounds.
We're using this campaign to raise the $20,000 that we need to fully cover all
the campers on financial aid in Summer 2015! A portion of the money raised this summer will also go towards new equipment.
TELL US MORE ABOUT THE CAMP!
Camp Reel Stories empowers young
women to value and nurture their own
unique voice, create their own media,
view current media critically and
thoughtfully, and aspire to leadership in
all aspects of their lives.
Camp Reel Stories is a media camp for
girls ages 13-18 years old. Unlike other
media education programs, Campers
learn the entire process of filmmaking
from top female professionals working
in every part of the industry. We show
girls that their stories and ideas have
value and that their audience is waiting.
In July 2013, CRS held our inaugural
camp with over 30 young women
and 40 professional volunteers. Over
the course of five days, these young
women wrote, shot and edited 6
outstanding short films, which they
then presented to over 250 people at
the very successful Camp Reel Stories
Film Festival. See their films at http://campreelstories.com/films/.
In 2014 we doubled in size and had
over 60 campers who produced
12 short films, five of which were
accepted into film festivals around
the country.
This year we are growing again!
We are happy to announce our new two week Advanced Camp!
Our Advanced Camp will have expanded workshops on screenwriting, audio, and
directing actors. Campers will be learning on professional equipment
and
have additional time working with their mentors. Just like our one-week bootcamp our Advanced Campers will participate in media literacy, team
building, and leadership workshops.
CRS gives young women the storytelling and production
skills to tell stories that reflect their unique point of view. Working
in small, collaborative groups, this camp gives the campers the
opportunity to make and broadcast their own short films through:
- Production Classes
- Media Literacy Lessons
- Leadership Workshops

We set ourselves apart through the use of accessible
technologies, social media and mentoring. We aim to show girls that, not
only do their stories and ideas have intrinsic value within the
cultural conversation, but the media is now democratized - with a good
story and access to a little technology, their voices can easily be
heard!
The camp culminates in The
Camp Reel Stories Film Festival where the campers present their work to
an audience of family, friends and local supporters (that's you!) We believe that the
end of their camp session should feel like just the beginning.
This year our film festivals will be held at the Kaiser Auditorium in Oakland on June 27th and July 18th so SAVE THE DATE!
