The Cannabis Boom!

News streams and headlines are full of reports on the health benefits as well as legalization of cannabis. The industry around the production of cannabis is huge! The North American marijuana market posted $6.7 billion in revenue in 2016, up 30% from the year before, according to a new report from Arcview Market Research. In the case of the cannabis boom, Arcview CEO Troy Dayton credits legalization with reeling in the stigma against the plant and bringing new users to the market…

"So when you look at the global market, the world has never seen something that will have such consistent growth over such a long period of time as the cannabis industry," Dayton said.

These statistics illustrate the quantity and consistent availability of cannabis coming into the market place. With large scale production comes an equally large amount of waste. After the desired elements of cannabis (medicine, fiber, oil, protein, etc…) have been removed from the stalk, there remains about 75% of the plant. This bulky by-product is going to be plentiful and cheap, and this is the by-product we'll use.

Here’s how we got here

Scotts Miracle Gro is the single largest manufacturer of do-it-yourself lawn, garden and home protection products in North America, Europe and Asia. In an article for Forbes, ‘Cannabis Capitalist: Scotts Miracle-Gro CEO Bets Big On Pot Growers’, (July 26, 2016) Scotts CEO is reported to have paid $120 million for a 75% stake in an Amsterdam-based lighting and hydroponics equipment outfit. Scotts strategy is to target cannabis growers in America. To us that seems like a relatively small segment of the do-it-yourself gardening market. So we thought, ‘Why limit sales to cannabis growers when you can sell cannabis to everyone?’ With this in mind we came up with the idea of CannDoo™. Rather than limiting distribution to one type of grower we’ll bring the growing benefits of cannabis to the everyday shopper, our neighbors and friends.

Here’s how you can help

We need funding to proceed from provisional patent to full patent status with CannDoo™. Research and equipment are top of the list. 

Equipment and labor: Five dual body compost tumblers, three compost tea kits, manure, chemicals and labor will provided the compost samples needed for testing. Estimated cost for equipment and labor is $4,263.00.

Research: Includes chemical testing and pest deterrent evaluation. A single chemical test for silica is $45.00, but each sample must be tested for NPK as well. NPK is Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K), each of these being essential in plant nutrition. Structural pest deterrent evaluations are more costly. Estimated cost for testing is $5,100.00.

Patent Attorney: Up to this point we’ve had the assistance of an intellectual patent attorney in D.C. He kindly donated his time, but going forward we need to hire a local patent attorney to work with during the research process and after. Estimated cost (based on information found at patentfile.org) is $8,500.00.

Estimated total cost: $17,863.00
