Bri Cooper, Mezzo SopranoSynopsis
I have always wanted to portray the legendary singer, Marian Anderson. During the recent filming of my upcoming TV special, Hidden Musical Treasures of DC, my interview with the Department of Interior led me on a journey, a story that needs to be told through a unique point of view.
Marian Anderson was a trailblazer. At the age of 12, I became an operatic prodigy, people often compared me to Marian Anderson. When it was time for me to attend college, I remember writing an essay about Marian Anderson being a role model. My mom would tell me stories about the 1939 concert at the Lincoln Memorial.
I always knew in my heart that I wanted to have the same grace and composure she had on stage. There was only one Marian Anderson, and because of her, it became possible for me to pursue my career in the arts with humility.
If you are a singer or serious musician, you know who Marian Anderson is, unfortunately if you are not, you might be one of the millions that has no idea who she was and how she chose to focus on her musical gifts that she was given to make a change and unite the world.
As a classical singer, I have a responsibility, to share the stories of iconic singers such as Marian Anderson, so that her legacy will not be forgotten, and the role she played long before the civil rights movement of Dr. King. People say opera is boring, however, there is a story.......her story, her legacy.

The closest I ever came to meeting Mrs. Anderson, was working with her nephew, the late James Dupriest, when he would frequent the Aspen Music Festival. Through the ups and downs of being a musical artist, I often think of Mrs. Anderson. I think of her focus and determination regarding music. The one thing that I know for certain Marian Anderson and I have in common, besides being opera singers, is our deep understanding of the responsibility of sharing music with the world. It is an understanding that surpasses so many materialistic things. It is an understanding of living your life for the music, the sacrifices, the joys the experiences and the obligation to unite the world through music.
Marian Anderson was a passionate woman, she lived and loved, she saw struggles and victories, she had moments of doubt and uncertainty. This is who she was and that one moment on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, her voice spoke volumes. The story is timeless and speaks to all of us.
Audiences everywhere will be able to understand the significant role that the Department of Interior played in this historic concert.

The Impact
There are three phases of the campaign. Each phase will take on a different piece of the puzzle to complete the film (See above "Here's what happens next"). The pre production phase is where the script has been greenlit, Consultants are standing by and we are ready to tie up loose ends regarding contracts for talent and production. This film is not to be taken as a hobby or a "pet project". The aim is to complete the project and have it recognized at a festival and in Hollywood. This film aspires to bring professional opportunities to female directors, cinematographers, production designers, screenwriters and the list goes on. The goal is to continue her legacy and educate all generations. Thanks to our fiscal sponsor, Your tax deductible contribution will help to make sure her legacy continues to live.
This year I got my feet wet in tv production. My show Operaluscious "Where Opera Meets Lifestyle" inspires, educates, enriches, and entertains all audiences about opera. This is these are the same goals I have for this film.
Risks:
As with most things, there are certain risks that are associated with it. Much like deciding to leave your 9-5 job and make a go out of your true passion whatever that may be. This movie is looking to inspire others to live a life that is worthy of who they uniquely are and the contribution we can all make through our gifts to the world.
