About The Film

Catharsis is a short film about a woman going through the five stages of grief. The film takes you inside the mind of this woman as she struggles with reality while trying to relive a fantasy.  The director, Naleeka Dennis, is attracted to making strong emotional pieces that explore the psyche of a character. She has always wanted to explore grief in and art form where I am able to personify it. For the filmmakers, this also a chance to explore a psychological state that I believe anyone could relate to. Style-wise I've been inspired by Darren Aronofsky's π and Jay-Z's "On To the Next One" music video.

Currently, we are in the midst of assembling a great crew and we're going to be shooting in mid-April. This is going to be Naleeka's first full-fledged production with a budget over $500. Catharsis is being made with the support of the Intermediate Experimental Workshop Course at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Any type of support is greatly appreciated and will go a long way into helping this film get made. Thank you.

What We Need & What You Get

At this time, we are hoping to raise $1000.  Currently, we are working from a budget that is only enough to feed the cast and crew on days of shooting, as well as to buy some, but not all, of our props and set dressing.  The additional monies that we raise through IndieGoGo will be going towards equipment, transportation, permit and location fees, wardrobe and makeup and the remainder of props and set dressing.

In return for your donation, we have a variety of perks that build upon each other.  In order, they are:

1. a handwritten thank you from Director Naleeka Dennis
   
2. a handwritten thank you from both Director Naleeka Dennis and Producer Alexa Whiteside
3. a DVD copy of the film
4. a "Special Thanks" credit at the end of the film
5. a signed copy of the script and a crew photo
6. a copy of on of the many paintings featured in the film
7. an Executive Producer credit

Every donation does count, but as film students, we understand that sometimes every dollar can be precious to you.  Therefore, we do have other ways in which you can help.  The easiest way is just to spread the word about our film.  Send the link to this page, our Facebook or our Twitter to your family & friends.

We are also on the lookout for various props and set dressing.  Some of these items include but are not limited to:
