Short Summary

Hello,

I am Pippa Moorhouse, a passionate, unpublished, author, with 3 completed Children's picture books and a children's novel.

I want to raise money, through this campaign, in order to publish the first of my Children's rhyming picture books 'Where has Harold hamster gone?' and from this, hopefully go on to publish my other books.

I want this success, for much the same reason as many other people want success. To give their families a better life. For us, however, the success I would like to achieve is not for a family that I have currently, but a family I desperately hope to have, pending funds for further treatment.

I wish to raise funding for the purposes of publishing, printing and marketing my book. With the success I hope to achieve, I want to be able to finally achieve my dream of having my own family. My additional motivations are to encourage learning in children and families, and to make people smile.

I have worked with children, young people and older people from disadvantaged backgrounds, for over 10 years now. This is not just a career for me, but a passion. To see people achieve things in life, that they did not believe they could, is what makes me tick. The first 10 years of my career, as a postgraduate scientist, was spent in commercial new business and new product development. My roles were within both multi national and SME businesses, and involved product creation, brand marketing and development, and national sales coordination and management.

Throughout my life, I have written plays that have been staged, poetry and fiction for myself, and creative marketing materials for others.

This is a picture book with a short, funny, rhyming story, written for children 6-12 years of age. Illustrations for the book are to be completed by fantastic cartoon illustrator, Albert Rusling. Word count for the book is 827. It is designed for family, classroom, and child alone reading.

This is a funny and touching book about a little boy, whose beloved pet, and best friend Harold hamster escapes and goes missing. Poor Ollie is devastated and inconsolable until his Grandad John decides to quietly confide in his grandson about his very special and very secret night job.

What We Need & What You Get

I would ideally like to raise £6000 to self publish, and provide the supporting marketing required to maximise awareness and sales of 'Where has Harold hamster gone?'

Financial Spend Breakdown;
  • £2000 for book set up and initial printing costs
  • £1000 for illustrations by a successful and amazing cartoon illustrator
  • £1000 for initial marketing costs
  • £2000 for business and ongoing marketing costs

On printing, limited signed copies will be available for contributors, you will receive a mention of thanks in the book.

If total funds are not raised, savings will be made in planned marketing areas and alternative marketing methods will be used. Priority with funds raised will be given to publishing and printing.

Any additional funds raised target over and above will be used to go towards publishing a second book from my portfolio (Children's novel 'A cookie for Christmas').

The Impact

  • The impact of this campaign for this, as yet unknown author, on a personal level, is immense and life changing.
  • The impact for children, families, teachers and other readers is laughter and learning.
  • This campaign will give you, as contributor, the opportunity to play a part in the launch of a fun, new, children's book.
  • With a successful career in developing and growing commercial business, charity projects and community programmes, for a variety of organisations as well as supporting people to develop their own lives and ideas, I have the skills and experience to finally create, develop and grow my own project and make it a success.

Risks & Challenges

  • The initial challenge for this project is to raise sufficient funds to publish, print and launch 'Where has Harold hamster gone?'
  • The secondary challenge is to publicise and raise awareness to encourage sales and brand popularity of the book.
  • Success will be achieved through PR, marketing and hard work.
  • I have experience at all levels of marketing and PR and I will do everything to achieve success with Harold.
  • I plan to use a publishing package through a well established publisher to create a colouful and fun paperback book.
  • I have an illustrator and plan to use extensive colourful illustration throughout the book.
  • I plan to print 500 copies to launch, and then print on request depending on demand, with a hope to increase print runs.
  • I plan to create interest and market Harold through website, social media, posters, readings in schools and to relevant groups, though press advertorials and other organisational websites such as mumsnet, and book events,
  • I plan to sell direct to readers through amazon and the website, direcly to independent book retailers and through wholesalers to chain bookstores.
  • I plan to create additional merchandise both to market the brand and to sell as interest grows.

Other Ways You Can Help

I would welcome any support with PR and marketing of Harold, and in addition, support and guidance in distribution and ecommerce.

I would welcome any support or guidance with using social media.

I would welcome a mentor. Someone who has been through and succeded in publishing children's books.

Most of all I would welcome a publishing contract
