The Film

Colibrí is a film about change, its destabilizing force, and how it impacts the identity of each individual.

Catalina and Germán announce to their relatives that they are going to have a baby, generating diverse opinions about the way they are leading their lives and the need to make changes to give the baby a prosperous future.

As a result, the two protagonists decide to address unresolved situations in their pasts, creating dramatic journeys in which each one distances himself more and more from not only their individuality but also from the stability and life that they had already built together. Germán, trying to avoid the mistakes of his absent father, looks for economic means to give the best to his wife and child, putting his own professional and artistic identity at risk. Meanwhile, Catalina goes in search of her brother whom she abandoned a few years ago in the hope of reforming their relationship. In the process of these searches, the two distance themselves emotionally, physically, and even geographically from themselves.

WHY INDIEGOGO?

The story of Colibrí is focused on its characters, allowing us to maintain a tighter budget. However, even though we do not require special effects for this film, our experience has taught us that filmmaking in general is an expensive process.

The money that we raise here will help support the production process for this film. This is the hardest part, securing initial funding to allow us to begin the project. Through the Indiegogo campaign, we can secure the necessary startup funding for crew (art department, location manager, AD, etc...), and secure locations (theater, apartment, recording studio). With your support, we can bring Catalina and German's story to life.

Risks & Challenges

Colibrí will not be an easy film to make. The film requires filming around the city of Bogota and explores the transformation of the city as our characters go through their journies. We know that upon watching it, people will understand German and Catalina's journeys and identify with their experiences. We know that our focus on the film's humanity will help us create a film that can engage a wide audience.

This film has been workshopped through Filmshop, a nonprofit collective of independent filmmakers committed to developing new work through peer support and collaboration.

Why this Film?

With this film, we will bring leading talent from Latin America and create a poignant story that not only speaks to the LatinX community but is also a story of universal themes.
