Brian Niemeier's XSeed series recaptures the old mecha fun without the pop-cult dross or high-art pretension. It's pulp. You read, enjoy the ride, move on. This installment reminds me most of Gunbuster in that it is concentrated on an invasion of Earth by aliens with an added twist of fifth columnists and a surprise ending. Plenty of action and intrigue with likeable characters.
