I came to this
country ten years ago, and for most of that period I have thought about
cultural differences between people of different nations. Not only the
differences between America and my country of Togo, but also of the countries
of many other immigrants that I have met over the years. Cultural differences
are very real, but I have not found a way to capture and understand them.
I’ve wanted to better assimilate with America, and I’ve wanted to better
understand others through their cultural heritage. But I couldn’t find a tool
to do it. Facebook gives you some rudimentary ways to learn about others, but
it isn’t attempting to engage in a cultural conversation. I started asking
myself how could social media help here. Just like social media has transformed
how you follow your friends or the news, I kept thinking about how social
media could help bridge these cultural divides. And after years of thinking
about it, I decided to develop a social media platform that focuses on
cultural values. I show you Myworldwall.
