About Us
Greetings Art Lovers! We are The Compound Gallery and Studios located in Oakland, CA. We think art is essential. We want to continue serving the art community through empowering studio spaces and art making equipment.
The Compound is a place where artists can go to have the resources and community that are available at art institutions. We are a place that fosters community while providing artists with an abundance of resources and equipment to produce artwork without limitations. We are a place for art collectors to purchase art. We are a neighborhood resource for art. We are a place to take workshops and learn new skills. We love art, artists, creativity, and making dreams a reality!
Our current building in Oakland, CA.
We are planning to expand into the adjacent building and create The Compound Institute of Fabrefaction (Fabrefaction=17th century word for the “making of art”). This new building will become our 3D building and focus on sculptural arts, while our current building will focus on 2D arts. We will move our current woodshop, metalshop, and ceramic area into the new space and ultimately, expand on our ceramic equipment, start a new artist residency just for ceramics, and acquire a 3d printer, and laser cutter. But we need your help.
We need to raise at least $10,000 to cover the cost of making the building façade pretty (it is pretty hideous now), building out the interior, and hopefully expanding our arsenal of equipment available to artists (if we meet our stretch goals). We also want to be able to provide a free artist residency for ceramic artists.
We are asking our wonderful patrons, artists, collectors, and community for contributions. If you have ever come to one of our exhibitions, watched a free movie, like having us in your neighborhood, or just want to support the arts, please donate and help us grow. In exchange, we're offering amazing
ephemera, original art, workshops, and art vacations! Your contribution will
help us make a wonderful space for artists to work, a new space for a 3D artist residency, more workshops, exhibition space, and a place for the community to go and enjoy art!
We can’t Thank YOU enough!
Our new 3D building needs help!

The Impact
Over the past 6 years we have been working tirelessly to build The Compound Gallery into a unique facility that supports both artists and collectors in a professional yet vibrant setting. We love our neighborhood so much and have developed a reputation as a notable local arts community. In the past 6 years we have:
- Created a place for artists showcase their work and the public can actually view it (yup, we have hours & are open 35
hours a week!)
- Provided several open call exhibitions for local artists with no entry fee.
- Gained a reputation as a place for collectors to buy quality art.
- Maintained a place for our community to come and view art, watch art movies, see demos, and have fun!
- Every year we offer 4 artists an Interdisciplinary Artist Residency with FREE 24/7 access to facilities for 6 months.
- We hold super affordable workshops for the community.
- Started Art in a Box and have sent out over 3,500 pieces of original Bay Area art to art collectors all over the world!
- Empowered artists with community and facilities.
- Dedicated ourselves to the arts because we believe in the importance of art and artists!

Risks & Challenges
There are usually unexpected costs that manifest when building out a space (is there enough power? What is under that drop ceiling? will the equipment fit through the door?) but we are confident we can overcome any hurdle that will come our way. With the help of our community, we are certain to prevail!
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't contribute, but you want to help in other ways, you can:
- Help us with your brute strength and physical labor by helping us paint, garden, build, etc.
- Please use the Indiegogo share tools and help spread the word!
- Do you have a piece of equipment you would like to donate?
And there you have it! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! See our awesome perks below:
