Game Trailer
Please check out the teaser for Game the Corpach Team's most recent project.
Out January 2014!
Synopsis:
It
is a typically cold and grey winter day in the Highland village of
Corpach. The date is November 27th, 1975. A primary school class is
playing outdoors on the edge of the woods. The scene is disrupted by
an earthquake, causing panic amongst the children. During the chaos,
a young girl, Luna, slips off unnoticed into the woods.
The
close-knit community is small and the disappearance is devastating. A
week passes before the police admit that it is very likely it will no
longer be a rescue mission.
In
the middle of the night an old woman stumbles out of the woods to
find a cabin in a clearing. She is soaking wet and on the verge of
death. Robert, the man living in the cabin, drives her to the Doctor
in the village, where he vanishes before identifying himself. The old
woman manages to describe a mysterious encounter she had with a man
in the woods before she quietly passes away. The next morning an
investigation reveals that she is in possession of the jewellery of
the young girl who vanished just one week earlier.
We
now jump forward to present day to introduce James, the brother of
the missing girl. He is now living in a city, far from the village.
The disappearance left deep scars within the family that have never
healed. He receives a message from his mother asking him to return to
Corpach to visit his estranged father, who is gravely ill. This
journey home will lead James to begin his own investigation into the
supranormal events surrounding his sisters disappearance.
This
is the end of the Prelude.
The Project:
Why Corpach?
![]()
Corpach
is a small village located in the Highlands of Scotland. It is
situated in amongst some of the most stunning scenery Scotland has to
offer. The village sits at the foot of Ben Nevis, the United Kingdoms
highest peak and from a geological point of the view it is also in a
very interesting territory as it lies on the Great Glen Fault. The
Great Glen Fault bisects the Scottish Highlands into the Grampian
Mountains to the southeast and the Northwest Highlands to the
northwest.
The etymology of the name Corpach also has a very
interesting history as it reputedly comes from the Gaelic for Field
of Corpses as the village was once used as a resting place for the
bodies of chieftains on their passage to Tír na nÓg, the mythical
afterlife.
The
artist and writer Norman Shaw describes the place as a 'Nemeton', a
place where worlds meet and inexplicable things can happen.
We
believe that setting our story in amongst this breathtaking landscape
and using the fascinating mythology linked to the area will make for
a truly unique and original short film.
Genre:
Drama,
Mystery, Thriller
Inspiration:
The
events surrounding the disappearance of the girl are reminiscent of
stories in Scottish folklore that tell of people being kidnapped by
Faeries or having encounters with shapeshifters, the devil himself and other
supernatural creatures.
We
have also incorporated some fragments of the recent history of the
village into the story such as the larger than usual earthquake which
was actually experienced in November, 1975. The recent industrial
years of the area will also play into the background of the story as
we will see the gradual decline of commerce from the 1970's until our
main character returns in present day.

Corpach Pulp and Paper Mill
We
are taking the idea that some mythological stories begin with a grain
of truth and become distorted into myths through retellings. Our hope
is that this story will blend fact and fiction and could itself
become a modern myth.
As
the story is set in a small community in the mountains, centring
around a tragic event involving a young girl and features situations
that are not easily explainable the most obvious source of
inspiration has been the TV series Twin Peaks.

Twin Peaks
Similar themes
of small communities dealing with loss can be found in other TV shows
such as "Southcliffe", which is also a great source of
visual inspiration for the project.

Why do we need your help?
The project is going to be shot on location, in the Scottish Highlands, in winter. The Highlands offer a beautiful but unforgiving landscape, and we need to make sure we have the best people we can possibly get to be able to shoot in these harsh conditions. Our crew believe in the project enough to donate their time 'in-kind' to the production, but we will still need to pay for:
-
Accommodation: Our talented crew need a warm and dry place to sleep at night to escape the highland winter!
-
Catering: As well as a warm bed we need to be able to provide our crew with hot food and drinks.
After that we will have to incur some fairly standard expenses that you would expect to find with any film production.
- Camera, Lighting & Grip: We will need to rent equipment to capture and light the film.
- Transportation: We will need vehicles and fuel to transport everything and everyone to the locations.
-
Costume/Props: We are used to working frugally and can make every pound stretch and will blag as much stuff as we can for free, but we will still need some money to help our Art, Costume and Make-Up departments achieve the 1975 look.
Even if we don't reach our IndieGoGo target we will have this film complete by May 2014 one way or another! We are also seeking other sources of funding.
In turn for your contribution we will provide a series of perks seen on the right of the page. Have a browse and see if anything tempts you.
If you want to follow the production up close please go to our Facebook or Twitter and stay updated.
Best Regards
Jeppe Rohde Nielsen
