Hello! I'm Ava :)
And I'm so happy to get to share with you a bit about my new short film, Cowards. It's a story that is very special to me, and will be my first professionally produced short. With your support in bringing it to life, this is sure to be an original and daring film with tons of heart.
Longline:
Mave, a socially inept writer in a sea of confident and successful Los Angeles creatives, is at her breaking point. She doesn't want to be "the next Greta Gerwig"--she wants to come home. While packing up her childhood toys, she suddenly gets the "genius" idea she's been waiting for--the idea that will turn her life around once and for all.
And her muse, you ask? None other than...
the Cowardly Lion.
Swept up in a fog of inspiration (or obsession), Mave begins to lose touch with reality, pushing away those around her and dissolving deeper into her fantasy. In the end, Mave must come to terms with two truths: 1. Her creative high can’t last forever. 2. Try as she might, she can’t escape her fears and self-doubt with only fur, glitter, and questionable lion makeup.
(she can’t escape them...but she might try to...again...)
In the end, Cowards is a darkly funny and compassionate short film about a young woman struggling to belong.
Budget Breakdown: What We Need To Make it Happen.
What we need to raise $10,000
This is considered a very low-budget film, and we have diligently planned out what to invest in to bring this story to life. Between equipment, costumes, and locations, professionally producing a film isn’t as cheap as one would wish, and we’re hoping for your support! We are planning on a 3-day shoot for this film, and your contribution will help pay for:
-
Equipment (We need to rent a quality camera, as well as lighitng and soud equipment. The majority of our budget will go towards this.)
-
Production/Costume Design (The visual world is very important to this story and this character. It will be worth it...we promise!)
-
Locations (we need to book a Theater and Bar to film at)
-
Fair pay for crew (We need a DP, sound operator, editor, production designer, and costume designer, to name a few. It takes a village to make a film, and we want to pay our team fairly and properly.)
- Post Production, Color Grading, and Editing
-
Festival Submission Fees (We have big aspirations for where we want to take this film... Submission fees can range from $20-$50 each, and they add up.)
We’re more than happy to answer any budget related questions you may have--don’t hesitate to ask for details/specifics! Just email avahase@gmail.com

Other Ways You Can Help
We understand that this is a very ambitious financial goal. Some people don't have the means to contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help. The biggest thing you can do for us is share this page! Have any distant family members with some extra funds to spare? Who'd like to be part of this project? Getting the word out is half the battle...if not more than half the battle...so please share! :)
And that's that!
Thank you all. The fact that you're even reading this makes this all the more real to me. I hope that together we can tell this strange, funny, and warm story. To be continued.
