Coyote Case: A Case for Just in Case

We need your help to bring the CES award-winning Coyote Case to market

In case you are new to crowdfunding, here’s how it works:

1. We invested personal resources up front to design an awesome product.  Our team has spent nine months, countless hours, and thousands of dollars to build a product that we’re really passionate about.
2. Coyote Case is now ready for production. We are asking you to help us raise the funds needed to complete the manufacturing by pre-ordering our product or supporting us with other funding options.

• If we raise $120,000 in pledges, we receive the money and will complete manufacturing and shipping within four months (by April 2013).
• If we do not receive the full $120,000 of funding, we will not move into production, you don’t pay a cent, and Coyote Case goes back to the drawing board.

We do not receive any of the funds until the end of the campaign (in Dec.), and only then if we are fully funded. Who is it for?

After nine months in development, we are proud to offer the Coyote Case for the iPhone 4/4s and the new iPhone 5, and we plan to expedite Andriod case development should we reach our Indiegogo goal. Coyote Case is ideal for kids, college students—especially women—and their concerned parents. It is also great for city dwellers, young professionals, and travelers including those who travel by air. For outdoor lovers, it’s a convenient way to enjoy a long walk, run, hike, ride or other pursuit with portable protection. It also offers greater peace of mind for those in disaster prone areas, those with a chronic health condition or the elderly who desire greater independence.

Our story

Creator Jonathan Page was concerned for the safety of his family after hearing how his niece felt personally threatened one evening last year. A father of two daughters, Jonathan wanted to do something more to increase their safety and empower them to travel freely and with greater confidence. As he began to research, he learned the facts about assault and felt called to action:

• There are over 10,000 serious assaults a day in the U.S.
• One in four college women have reported rape or serious assault during their college experience.

It’s likely that you know someone who has had a threatening or serious encounter. So you can understand the motivation to want to do something to help prevent those situations from happening to them. It’s what drives our team to relentlessly work toward the quality-built product we have planned to deliver for your protection.

 Evolved design for greater protection

After several iterations of design, testing, and user feedback,; we have finally reached Version 3 of the Coyote Case (thanks to Andy, out CES award-winning product designer). The functional design of this Coyote Case is rooted in human behavior and ergonomics. We studied how people respond in stressful situations and built a product that is intuitive, durable, and lightning fast. 

Customizable controls

Coyote Case takes into consideration much behavioral research, which suggests that the natural reaction of the human hand is to make a clenching motion when under duress.

The user features on the exterior of the case include:

• Three options for user sensitivity level: "0" the siren is turned off. "1" activation requires one side button squeezed. "2" activation requires 2 side buttons squeezed together.
• Three options for alarm mode: siren + emergency text, only siren, or only emergency text.
• The buttons on either side of the case are the activation buttons and, when depressed by applied user pressure, trigger the Coyote Case protective features. This can be done deftly, subtly, and without looking at your phone.

Materials and Design

Externals: The Coyote Case is currently offered for the iPhone 4/4s and the new iPhone 5. The finish is designed to have a soft touch feel to enhance the user experience while protecting the smartphone. The case thickness is less than 1/3". The radius edges and pillow back fit comfortably into small or large hands. Your purchase includes batteries for the case, and you can choose from five colors at launch.

Internals: The Coyote Case electronic module is comprised of the highest quality components. This includes a piezo buzzer element (siren), printed circuit board, lithium ion battery, and user interface capable of 7 levels of customization. The piezo buzzer element featured in the video emits the siren at just over 100db (similar to a smoke dectector). The case design allows for a harder resin to be used in the center section creating a better sound chamber for the piezo.

Bluetooth: The Bluetooth 4.0 technology utilized in the case is FCC-approved and will connect to our proprietary app, which is already developed. When the case is triggered, the Bluetooth signal will awaken and activate the Coyote Case app to acquire the current GPS location and send the emergency text with location map to pre-set contacts. The Coyote Case app has been developed already for iOS and meets all of the Apple requirements. It will be free to download when (and if!) the case is available.

About our Manufacturing

For Coyote Case’s manufacturing and assembly, we have been grateful to receive the guidance of several supply chain experts and Fortune 500 engineers. The selected contract manufacturer has the capacity and capability to deliver on our product based on this design and engineering plans, and they have a strong track record in manufacturing similar devices (and indeed have manufactured many technical products you likely use today). We will continue to work closely with our team of experts and the manufacturer for quality control and reliability if the product is brought to market.

Our pricing on Indiegogo reflects our desire to get the Coyote Case to market quickly and to offer a value to our supporters who make it possible. We are grateful that you share our vision.  The costs include the advanced nature of the case elements, manufacturing, assembly, and shipping. When available in stores next year, Coyote Case will retail for approximately $120.

We’re so close to realizing our vision for manufacturing the completely integrated Coyote Case. The siren, Bluetooth-functionality, and the Apple Coyote case app all exist and have been vetted independently by experts. The new design and expectations of its performance have been very carefully considered. We’re simply now at the point we need to “connect the dots” and funds are needed to do so.

 Your funds will help:

• Fabricate two sets of steel molds; one each for the iPhone 4/4s and 5
• Pay for independent lab testing and regulatory approval for UL
• Pay for additional engineering to complete the bluetooth integration between the case and the app.

We need to hit our minimum to fund this effort as this is where we fall short compared to established, well-resourced companies. We’re simply now at a point we can’t fund this effort alone.
