Short Summary
My name is Tamiah Bridgett and 16 years ago, I “went natural.” For those who don’t understand the term, I stopped using sodium hydroxide chemicals to achieve straight hair. It was the best decision of my life and it literally led me to my life’s purpose.
You see, shortly after going natural women began asking me for style advice as they too wanted to be free from chemical relaxing. At that time, there was no YouTube and there were few blogs on the subject. In my hometown, I became a go-to person on styling natural hair. I’d been working as a manicurist through college and graduate school, so the beauty industry was familiar to me but I never thought I’d go into hairstyling.

Fast-Forward to 2010. I was working as a therapist and still assisting women with transitioning to their natural hair in droves. So, I decided to start having Meetup events in my neighborhood. Each time we met, more people came. An attendee suggested that I put together an online community during the winter months to keep contact and It’s a Natural Thang was born on Facebook. We remain a closed group as emotional safety is still important to me, but gain about 1,000 members annually. We are pressing our way to 6000 members internationally!

I returned to beauty school with the intention of doing state advocacy to get more education on styling natural hair in beauty schools, but instead, was presented with an opportunity to apply for a start-up accelerator program. I’d had this idea to transform the blow dryer. Large name beauty companies have tried to create hair tools for natural hair but they still miss the mark. Little did I know it, but I’d been working on a conceptual prototype for some time from tweaking my own tools! In the late summer of 2015, I was accepted into the Alphalab Gear accelerator and Diversamē Inc was born.
I contracted with engineers to take the concept of a dryer for textured hair into a working prototype form and here we are! Our tool has been tested in multiple salons in the Pittsburgh region including The Natural Choice, Diva Den and Philip Pelusi! Mr. Pelusi endorsed the Diversamē Drying Tool for its innovation and function. We are also endorsed as Dermatology Approved from Dr. Melanye Maclin, Dermatologist who is known for her work in Chris Rock’s Good Hair documentary, Hype Hair Magazine and the Steve Harvey Show.
Contributing to this campaign will help us bring an amazing tool into the market.

The Impact
Your contribution matters so much to the success of Diversamē as it loans market validity. Contributing proves to the “big guys” that the textured hair market is underserved and that we will invest in a company that considers and is concerned about our hair care process.
The Diversamē Drying Tool will have worldwide marketplace impact. The face of the average American is changing and much of the hair textures across the globe are on the Curly Continuum, a term I’ve coined to express the vast nature of curly hair types and textures. In an age of customization, it’s time that hair tools address the needs of those previously forgotten!
Risks & Challenges
As a tech start-up company. We have encountered many obstacles. In spite of them all, we were still able to go from concept to functional prototype in under a year. Most of all we have gained the support of the Curly Continuum!
If we don't meet our goal of $15K we will use whatever funds we have to go towards production as we seek further investment.
