Help STOP! Workplace bullying in Higher Education
A recent study conducted by Leah Hollis reveals that 62% in higher education administration have been bullied on the job. This is 58% higher than corporate rate. Help get the word out.
Tuition costs are soaring! Students are taking on incredible debt to attend college! This research and subsequent book identifies the costly trend of workplace bullying in higher education and how to solve the problem. The millions of dollars saved by creating a healthy workplace in higher education, can reduce the costly turnover and employee disengagement. These costs which are eventually passed on to students, can be recouped to create needed supports for students struggling through college.
Because of the cost to higher education, and the damaging effects bullying has on the professional staff,I decided to look into this issue after my first book. Several people approached me about how they were mistreated on the job. Regardless of age, race or gender, people are finding the workplace to be an unsafe place. I am a 20+ year veteran of college administration and compelled by this issue. Also, I enjoy writing and research and decided to investigate this topic on workplace bullying in American higher education.
BULLY IN THE IVORY TOWER is original research with findings that 62% of higher education administrators endure workplace bullying. This is 58% higher than the corporate rate. Workplace bullying in higher education disproportionately affects women, people of color and the LBGT community. Further, this behavior costs higher education billions of dollars in turnover and employee disengagement.
I was very sad to find this out as a 20 year veteran of higher education administration. I grew up playing on a college campus and my family has always been in education. College is supposed to be an enlightened place, not a place where people dread reporting to work.
Targets of bullying spend 4 hours a week avoiding a bully. This is costing colleges and universities millions of dollars in disenegaged staff hours. Bullying behaviors ruin careers and create health problems for the target.
This book not only lists the findings and extent of workplace bullying in higher education, it offers critical solutions for employees and leadership. Help get the word out. help kick the bully out of the Ivory Tower.
