The biggest physical challenge of my
life:
Cycling
across the country in 32 days – 115 miles per day!!!
Hi, my name
is Santhosh Paulus and I am the President of Cycling For Change which is
incorporated in New York as a Not For Profit and we are also a 501©(3). As President of the
Medical Staff at Glen Cove Hospital and Associate Program Director of the Family
Medicine Residency program in the NS-LIJ Health System, I am excited to give
you the opportunity to join me in a great endeavor. The team of cyclists participating in the
July 2015 charity ride called Cycling For Change—c4c2015—are training hard to
prepare for a cross country route over the span of 32 days.
What is our motivation and WHY would anyone
want to bike 115 miles a day for a month?
There are
two issues of social justice that just wreck me, and as a team, we want to make
a difference: poverty and human trafficking, a modern day slavery. The funds we raise in preparation and during
the ride will be gifted to charities who are making a huge difference in our
world in this fight, namely World Vision and NOMI network.
World Vision
is a reputable longstanding humanitarian organization that desires to tackle
poverty and injustice here in the US and around the world, specifically focused
on children. They focus on access to
clean water, medical attention, education, food and agriculture and economic
development.
Nomi Network is a nonprofit organization based in New York City that
aims to create economic opportunities for survivors and women at risk of human
trafficking in Cambodia and India. They are dedicated to breaking the cycle of
poverty that perpetuates human trafficking globally.
I would like to raise awareness and funds to help these two
organizations by leading a cycling team from Seattle to NYC. At present I have
a total of 5 cyclists who have committed to this endeavor and hundreds who will
join for some portion of the 3200 plus miles along the way. This is no easy
feat and we need your help.
Life can seem hopeless for victims caught in the midst of trafficking and the vicious cycle of poverty. At at time when things seem hopeless join us on the side of hope...because hope changes everything! Thank you.
