Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund:

This fund is being raised to help Danny Hanning fight his recently diagnosed Non—Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. These monies will be exclusively spent on:

.

·  DrugsFor the payment of/for ‘Non-Formulary’ drugs and medications for the treatment of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and all of the various and sundry secondary medical needs.

·  Treatment – For treatments that are not covered by; Medicare or Medi-Cal. Including treatments for; limited mobility, pain reduction, and health issues arising out of, but not directly related to, the Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This can include holistic therapies and natural cures that are helpful but not scientifically proven and/or approved.

·  TransportationFor each and every trip I make to; a doctor’s appointment, chemotherapy, physical therapy, deep muscle massage, heat treatments, radiation therapy costs $10.00 for a round trip. This cost, so far, I have been able to shoulder alone. However, with trips that are three times a week (chemo), and supporting doctor’s appointments I simply cannot afford up to and exceeding $300.00 a MONTH in transportation costs. If I raise enough funds I hope to purchase a van and lift so that I can transport myself! I still have a valid CA Driver’s License, can,and would like to provide for my own transportation.

·  Food and Housing – Currently I live on a diet of frozen TV dinners each and every night of the month. I would like to purchase more healthy foods like; fruits & nuts, vegetables, raw meats and starches so that I can prepare myself healthy food! I would like to greatly improve my diet and eating habits, thus improving my quality of life and greatly enhancing my body’s natural abilities to fight cancer. I would like to MOVE! Dying, in Southern California, is not what Danny would hope for. I would like to; see snow again, have a Holiday Season WITHOUT 90 degree temperatures, have a ‘White Christmas’ again… before I die. I would like to get out of this horrible place and live where there are four seasons, snow in the winter, and LIVE before I die.

·  In-Home Care – For the past decade my best-friend and roommate… yeah, I’m sticking with that… Has; helped me eat, bathe, get in and out of bed, get to and from appointments, and generally cared for me 24/7/365. He now works two jobs to help pay for rent, food and sundries. He will not be able to keep two jobs and get me to all of the appointments, treatments, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and supportive services. He just cannot be in two places at once. Either I hire a caregiver or I find the money to replace his income. At least through this first course of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. This is a mandatory cost and one that could force me to being homeless with cancer.

.

That’s it! My Dear Readers… My Dear (future) Contributors, you have an opportunity here to help a man that has given throughout his life. In just the past four years I have written and published OVER Five Hundred Articles ranging from the exploration of Mars and the Solar System to current affairs and even a horror story for young adults. I would very much like to continue my writing and publishing. Continue until such time that I am no longer able to provide enlightening and entertaining content.

.

With your help I can continue my work. I can continue to live and that is all any human… any American could ever hope for, or ask. It is not in my nature to ask for assistance. However, circumstances beyond my control have forced my hand. I either ask for and receive help… or my cancer takes my life in a little as six to eighteen months[1]. Those are the facts.

.

Thank you for your time and kind consideration. Below is my life’s story and MORE about my health and my past fifteen year struggle with Invertible Degenerative Disc Disease. I you would like to know more about my recent struggles, read ahead below. PLEASE consider GIVING to my campaign.

.

Thank you!

Danny’s Cancer Treatment Fund:

·  INTRODUCTION:

This fund was created to help Daniel Hanning deal with some of the extraordinary expenses associated with his fight with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer.

.

My name is Daniel Hanning and I was born and raised in Southeast Texas in the 60’s and 70’s. From the 3rd grade I performed and entertained my fellow students, and their parents, in; Choir, Debate, and Dramatic Arts. Born in Houston Texas, we moved out of Houston and to Pearland, Texas in 1966. I attended Pearland Elementary, Pearland Middle school and Graduated from Pearland High School. I went on to attend Alvin Community College and the University of Houston/Clear Lake City.

.

I left Texas in 1981 and moved to Southern California. I have worked in many fields, but achieved professional status in; Small Business Administration, Pharmacy Technician, and Residential Property Leasing & Management,  In August of 1987, while working for Target Stores I was struck on the head by a falling typewriter. I was hospitalized for the next six months, and suffered with multiple Spinal Cord injuries, damage to cervical discs, and left side hemostatsis.

.

After hospitalization and occupational therapy and training, I returned to work as a Pharmacy Technician. Ignoring my growing neurological problems and deficits, I made a move from Pharmacy work to become a professional property manager. I worked in Stanton, CA managing 50 units for three years, and then moved to a 500-unit complex as a Leasing Agent.

.

I worked as long as I could until 2002 when I began to fall and loose the use of my left hand and arm, again. In 2003 I was classified as Disabled and unable to return to my pervious work. My Degenerative Disc disease became worse and worse and in 2007 I had a spinal fusion. The damage to my spinal cord, nerve roots and root endings was so severe that the surgery did not help my condition, just worked to slow the progression of my disease.

.

In 2012 I was diagnosed with “moderate to Severe Spinal Stenosis”  and  was unable to walk without a cane, and unable to walk more than ¼ of a block at all. In 2013 I obtained a power chair (via a finding campaign here at Indiegogo) and my disc disease continues to degenerate. My neurological deficits increase and my abilities to: walk, clothe myself, bathe myself, dress myself, and prepare and eat food degenerate.

.

Sometime around the beginning of 2014… or the end of 2013 I discover a ‘lump… growth’ on my jaw line on the right side of my face. Starting in summer of 2013 I began having regular low-grade fevers, unexplained nausea, weakness, and decreased appetite. Now, to our current time period.

.

On August 1st, 2014 I had a surgery to remove the “growth” on my face. A biopsy is done on August 5th 2014. On August 7th 2014 I am told that I have been diagnosed with “a lymphoma”. Now that I have the pathology report, I see that they found “follicular lymphoma Grade 3B”. I now understand that I have ‘Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma’ and the grade 3B tumor would mean I am in either stage 3 or stage 4 of this disease.

·  REASONS & IMPACT:

.

I am starting this funding campaign, just as soon as I found out about my disease, to help differ the costs of my; chemotherapy, treatments, transportation, and anti-emetics. My current Social Security is only $970 and my rent is $940. Ido not have any money to help pay for all of the transportation costs, costs of chemotherapy drugs (I have looked it up and it appears that the most preferred drug to treat Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is “Non-Formulary” under my Part D Medicare Prescription Drug plan), primary and secondary treatment costs not covered by Medicare, and the cost of anti-emetics to treat the severe and crippling nausea and vomiting.

.

·  Pros and Cons:

.

MEDICATIONS:

With your help I will be able to purchase the ‘non-formulary’ chemotherapy medication that has the best results, and longest ‘life expectancy’.

As well, as needed with your contributions I will be able to purchase… ‘non-formulary’ anti-emetic ‘drugs’ to help with the nausea and vomiting. This is the reason that ‘Medicinal Marijuana’ was voted legal here in California. I am sure that I will SHOCK the sales people… when a person in a power chair… on Chemotherapy walks in to buy… anti-emetics. J

.

TREATMENTS:

Other than chemotherapy and/or Radiation therapy there are many other kinds of treatments that can be necessary during the course of treating cancers. Since I have cancer of the lymphatic system alternate treatments are:

  • Stem Cell Transplant-  High Does Chemotherapy and Stem Cell Transplant  for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Stem cell transplants are sometimes used to treat lymphoma patients who are in remission or who have a relapse during or after treatment. Although only a small number of patients with lymphoma are treated with this therapy, this number is growing.

Stem cell transplants allow doctors to use higher doses of chemotherapy (and sometimes radiation) than would normally be tolerated. High-dose chemotherapy destroys the bone marrow, which prevents new blood cells from being formed. This could lead to life-threatening infections, bleeding, and other problems due to low blood cell counts.

Doctors try to get around this problem by giving an infusion of blood-forming stem cells after the high-dose treatment. Stem cells are very primitive cells that can create new blood cells.

Blood-forming stem cells used for a stem cell transplant can come from:

·  The blood (for a peripheral blood stem cell transplant, or PBSCT)

·  The bone marrow (for a bone marrow transplant, or BMT)

·  Umbilical cord blood (for a cord blood transplant)

Most stem cell transplants are now PBSCTs.[1]

.

  • Reasons Motivations and TIMING:

My Dear Readers & Potential Contributors and Assistants. I am putting all of my energies and talents into THIS campaign for one Very Good reason. Right now… I do have the: energy, focus, stamina, mental prowess, dexterity, creativity and HEALTH to make this the BIGGEST and BEST Fund Raising Campaign of my LIFE! I do not know just what condition I will be… in later. Later, when all of the conventional therapies have failed and a Stem Cell Transplant is the only solution that might continue or extend my life.

.

Right NOW I am in a great deal of pain… all over my body. However, I am still able to; focus, create, copy/paste, think, coordinate, and WRITE! Right now I can still put together articles and this campaign in such a way that it looks (at least somewhat) professional and appealing. I do not know if that will be the case in; three months, six months, a year, two years, five years. I am being ghoulishly HONEST! BRUTALLY HONEST!

.

If I do wait, to run another campaign when I do need; more expensive chemotherapy drugs, more chemotherapy treatments than what is allowed by my plan, or I am to the point that alternative treatments are all that stand between me and… this disease taking me away from all of you, My Dear Readers. Therefore, I am asking for the large amount goal NOW when I am still capable to drawing and holding the attention and contributions of the most number of readers and contributors. I am asking for $25,000.00 NOW because I do not want to be in a position that I am unable to create and maintain; my blog(s), a campaign, social media integration and communication and financial integration necessary for this type of endeavor!

.

I am asking for all of the money that I (logically foresee) that will need, throughout the course of this disease, NOW! So that I have the physical, mental and creative abilities to accomplish my goal. I have given this whole… lifetime of the disease, lifespan of treatment, and all potential foreseeable outcomes and diagnoses.

.

I am, for likely the very first time in my life, looking out for ‘Future Danny’ in the most deliberate and methodical fashion imaginable. I have consulted; HNL support groups, NHL Support Forums, NHL National Organizations, NHL Medical Information sites, Cedars-Sinai, National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, the web site for my ‘Part D Medicare Prescription Drug Program, and the Social Security and Medicare web sites.

.

While I am near this.. subject? My Dear Readers/Contributors… TODAY I received a letter from SilverScript (My ‘Part D Medicare Prescription Drug Plan). In it… and they would have JUST received copies of current medical reports… and prescription requests from the hospital and my BIOPSY. They sent me a letter saying;

.

“Mr. Hanning it has come to our attention that you MAY HAVE moved to a location that is OUTSIDE our Prescription Plan COVERAGE AREA. You have UNTIL 12/31/14 to RESPOND and VERIFY your location and/or January 1st 2015 YOUR prescription plan benefits WILL BE TERMINATED.”

.

My Dear Readers/Contributors I moved to this location October 4th 2013!!! I have lived here for the better part of a YEAR and just now (total coincidence that I was JUST diagnosed with NHL… I JUST NOW got a biopsy result showing NHL… JUST NOW had a surgery for a tumor removal) they have suddenly and inexplicably realized that I “May have moved OUTSIDE your plan’s COVERAGE AREA.”

ROLFMFAO!

.

You see, My Dearest Readers/Contributors? This is what I have to look forward TO… and THIS is WHY I am running this campaign with THE amount that I AM! There is just NO telling when they might suspend or terminate my prescription Drug Plan! Once done? It will take Weeks TO MONTHS to get me; enrolled in the NEW plan, get benefits ‘flowing’, and coordinate my Par ‘D’ Prescription Plan WITH my Pharmacies and Hospitals. Further, I am not so sure just how this ‘switching’ of plans AFTER I have started a treatment with a very expensive chemotherapy drug! Yes, this is what is called a ‘Targeted Gene Therapy Cancer Treatment’[1]This type of therapy is classified as ‘Alternative’ and/or ‘Advanced’cancer therapy… and we all know just how insurance companies react to something that is ‘new’, ‘Advanced’ and/or ‘Alternative’!

.

I am just trying to get ahead of their; refusals, rejections, attempts to cut me off, and/or reject my NEEDED medications or dosages. You see, My Dearest Readers/Contributors, I named my blog(s) ‘The Other Shoe’ because my life has been just (one after another) experience of the other shoe dropping on me when I least expect it! By asking… requesting the monies now I am sure to have the resources when ‘The Other Shoe’… DROPS!

.

As well, all of this money WILL GET HELD until it is needed for my; medications, transportations, hospitalizations, rejections, or discontinuance of coverage’s. It is not me desire or intent to spend ‘one thin dime’ until it is absolutely necessary! I know that something… somehow… someway will get; rejected, delayed, discontinued or “just lost in the system” and I think that if you seriously consider your experiences with hospitals and ‘Government Agencies’ you know that I am reasonable and actually smart for planning for the worst and hoping for the best!

.

As well, I would like to think that just maybe I could raise enough money to get the heck out of CALIFORNIA! I would like to think that just maybe I would raise enough to possibly get my own ride AND stop having to get stared AT on mass transit! That I might raise enough money to get new glasses… the ones I am wearing right now as I write, and when I go out to see my doctors… well, are TWELVE years old! I am sure that my vision has changed and it would be ever so nice to get new prescription glasses!

.

There you have it… MY promotion as I have it written RIGHT NOW!

.

PLEASE HELP ME FIX THIS!

.

Thank YOU!

.

To be continued with YOUR help and Input!
