What It's All About

This month marks the 100th anniversary of the Federal Reserve Act. Exactly one century ago, congress installed a banking system that gave a private cartel the right to print money. Since then, our currency has constantly devalued, our debt has steadily increased, and we find ourselves fighting endless wars for false and inexplicable reasons.

This banking system is the most significant element of our society's political and economic structure, but only a small minority of Americans understand it.

The Music Video

To help build awareness around this auspicous anniversary, I've produced a hip-hop video titled "Follow The Money" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IoJyGDBdv0). It presents historical and economic facts to argue that the vast human suffering and destruction of America's ongoing wars are perpetrated not for noble reasons of liberty or self-defense, but to support this corrupt financial system, serving the greed and of a wealthy ruling class.

The Essay Contest

In order to spur the national dialog, especially among young adults, I am sponsoring an essay writing contest, inviting high school and college students to "Defend Your Rulers" in a short essay that rebuts one or more assertions I present in my video and the description text.

Entries will be evaluated by a volunteer team of professional educators with a variety of political views. Each judge will evaluate a random set of entries, then nominate a few finalists. A small committee will review all finalists and determine the top three entries, which will recieve considerable prizes, and other honorable mentions.

Prizes will be awarded as cash scholarships. I am personally offering $1000 of my own money: enough to prompt some teachers to share the contest, some students to enter, and some independent media to mention it. I would like to make it bigger. And that's where you can help.

With small contributions from enough people, we can offer a $10,000 stack of cash for the winner. This sizable prize - combined with the originality of an academic challenge sparked by an independent hip-hop artist and sponsored by thousands of grassroots supporters - is a compelling story.

100% of your donation will be given away as cash scholarships, providing  reward and encouragement for some diligent young intellectuals, and tempting lots of others to engage in a political discourse beyond the rote curriculum of social studies class.

Rewards for Contributors

I appreciate collaborating with good people, and though I don't want to spend your money on trinkets, I will certainly recognize your contribution.

Everyone who donates will be publicized in a list of contributors, with particular prominence for higher donors. And everyone will get a free MP3 download of the song.

If you donate $20 or more, I will send you an embroidered patch commemorating your part in this effort. I will design it myself, and it'll be produced at Embroidery Services, my father's local embroidery company.

If you donate $50 or more, I'll buy you a drink and chat with you for 30 minutes about anything - my creative process, politics, music, other projects I have planned. Well, anything except my personal life. We can meet somewhere in Atlanta or videochat with Skype or Google Hangout. And you'll get the song and the patch.

If you donate $500 or more, I'll write a song for you. Of course, you'll also get the patch, and we'll have to drink and chat so I can get to know you. Write me if you’re interested in this.

Please chip in a little. The more people that back this and the more money we can offer, the bigger the splash it will make. Thank you for helping work toward a better world.
