Demi & Ace - aromantic comedy
Demi & Ace is an upcoming webseries that focuses on two friends going through the mishaps of the rom-coms you know and love, with one twist: they are both on the asexual spectrum. The show breaks stereotypes assigned to asexuality and offers much needed representation of the asexual-aromantic spectrum.
The rare cases of asexual representation in entertainment often portray it as a whimsical character quirk or even as a trait signaling coldness and emotional unavailability. As a response to these harmful misrepresentations, our team is creating a show in which its main characters are on the asexuality spectrum AND are fully characterised, realistic people outside of their sexual identities.

The vision
Did you grow up loving shows like H2O: Just Add Water or W.i.t.c.h.? Are you a fan of the colourful and stylised heightened reality of many Korean dramas?
If so, you will most surely enjoy the captivating and immersive world of Demi & Ace. Our show will stylistically and aesthetically emulate your nostalgic favourites, while updating the content and message to be more inclusive and diverse.
Demi & Ace will make you giggle regardless of your identity, but also aims to empower our target audience, the community of wonderful people on the ace-spectrum. Through the show, we want to create a platform for horizontal communication to truly connect with our viewers. In doing so, we wish to enable all the ace and aro people to find a safe space and open community within the Demi & Ace social platforms.
About the production
The series is an original idea by our brilliant screenwriter and showrunner Laura Eklund Nhaga, who has previously written and starred in the literature inspired web-series Project Green Gables.
The show will be produced and filmed in Finland, primarily in Helsinki, during Autumn 2021, covid-19 restrictions considered, and the post-production and editing will continue until the release in February 2022. While the production team and parts of the cast are Finnish, the show itself will be entirely in English. We will also provide subtitles in at least 3 languages (Finnish, English and Swedish) to make the show as accessible as possible.
Why we need your help
Our full aim is to make Demi & Ace a valuable addition in representation of asexual identities, as well as a fun, enjoyable show. In order to fully realise our vision, we are crowdfunding to cater the minimum budget we need to make the series into reality. We have also applied for a grant, but as the results will be unsure, the Indiegogo campaign will help us stay on schedule with the production. As a team, we firmly believe in transparency and accountability, and thus will announce the results of the grant application when we have them.
If we are unable to meet our goal within the established time frame, all your donations will be refunded by Indiegogo within 5-7 business days. We started the campaign because we wanted to have a realistic and achievable goal in order to be able to pay our cast and crew at least a little for their valuable time. However, both of our avenues in funding are targeted at the lower end for media productions. Our highest priority is to make the series happen.
With our prior experience with web-series, we will in all likelihood be able to complete this project regardless of extensive funding. Our producer Mimosa has mapped out three alternative budgets we can follow depending on the extent of the funding we manage to gather. With this in mind, if you see the importance of this project but cannot afford to donate, worry not! Please stay tuned to enjoy our final product, we will do our very best to deliver the show within the current timeline.

Laura Eklund Nhaga (she/her)
Laura is the showrunner and screenwriter of Demi & Ace. She will also be playing the titular Demi! Laura is a 24-year-old actress, writer and spoken word artist that you might recognise from projects such as Project Green Gables and Hotel Swan Helsinki. Or maybe you've seen her in the many Open Mics of Helsinki.

Ace
Katri Swan (she/her)
Katri is an actress and currently studying screenwriting. She believes that storytelling is central to human existence and as it exists in every culture around the world she wanted to explore it. After traveling around the world for almost 2 years, mind full of stories she wanted to solely focus on the craft of cinema and acting. Katri studied in Los Angeles for 5 years at the University of California and at the Actor's Academy. Since then she has returned to Europe and has worked in Finnish TV-series, films and short films.

Mimosa Linnea (she/her)
Mimosa Linnea was a part of the original core team of Project Green Gables from its beginnings. She holds her undergraduate degree in film studies from King’s College London, and has experience on a variety of media works in the production department. Now back in Finland, she’s finishing her master’s degree in media studies while dreaming of adopting a puppy.

Knowing most of the crew from high school, you may recognise her as Diana Barry from their previous production, Project Green Gables. She currently works as a barista and is saving up to continue her post grad studies in social sciences.

Tiina is a content creator for social media and has gained experience in communications through an internship and involvement in different projects. She has a master of arts degree in literature, and she loves writing, movies and yoga.
