About myself and the game
Hi, my name is Julien Dupuis and I'm a student at Isart Digital Montreal in game design. I've been working my solo indie game Deuce for the past few years now and I'm eager to continue developing games that will revolutionize the industry.
DEMO is being updated
Deuce is a special type of RPG where you - the player - go through a profound narrative experience where the two main characters lose parts of their humanity along the way while discovering the characters' unique playstyles while also forming bonds with the witty and charming characters' duality, you will soon find that the protagonists have a strong dynamic. Explore the intricacies of humanity in this light-hearted approach at philosophy through gaming.
This RPG/RogueLite will focus heavily on replayability where the player will have multiple ways of playing the game to their liking.
The first option, the classical mode where the player chooses to attack the incoming enemies will be lead by Adria. The second, a powerful geomancer named Zaakir decides his powers can best be used to evade confrontation and thus will play as a pacifist. Each gameplay style can be swapped at the press of a button and different styles will earn you morality points which will influence your gameplay experience.
Financial Objective
As a contributor, your donations can go a very long way. Here's how your support will help push the game further:
- With 5,000$ CAD, I will be able to cut out my part time work to spend most of my time developing Deuce without distractions, thus accelerating the progress of the game and ensuring a higher quality product. This amount is an accurate representation of how much I will need to obtain in order to pay for external work such as artistic commissions (audio, graphic, etc.) in addition to my own living expenses for about a year. IndieGoGo also takes a cut from the profit I make and I must also repay the artists who have helped me so far.
However, it is possible that I will obtain more than the required amount of funding and I fully intend to give my supporters as much bang for their buck! Here is a list of what I will do with extra support from the community:
- $5,000 - Full game release.
- $7,500 - Extra enemies and types.
- $10,000 - Different tile/map types (Hexagonal, octogonal, triangular).
- $15,000 - Ports to consoles.
- $20,000 - Extra bosses with original sound tracks.
- $30,000 - I'll hire extra artists for a higher quality product and quicker development.
- $40,000 - Unlockable Co-op mode!
- $50,000 - Difficulty levels!
Risks & Challenges
Although I am a "solo-developer" I do intend on hiring additional help with the audio and visuals, but finding the right help isn't always easy. It's difficult to say how much help I will need with the project considering that the size and scope will change depending on the StrechGoal we hit.
Additionally, completing an entire game might seem like an impossible task for a "solo" developer, especially a student at that!
Fortunately, I'm surrounded by talented and helpful expert developers and teachers at Isart Digital! I'm never more than a few steps away from feedback and technical expertise in both design and programming. On top of all that, I study in a format that allows me to take 1 week off every second week for personal growth and development in the industry for the entire school year, which means I can dedicate myself to the development of Deuce.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean they can't help:
My campaign will be shared by myself on Facebook and LinkedIn. But since I don't have a Twitter account, I'm counting on you guys to help me get the word out there about Deuce!
Reddit and Discord servers are also a great idea to spread the love!
