We started Dick Moby because we wanted to address the plastic pollution of our oceans in a positive way. We both love the ocean. Growing up surfing and sailing we’ve experienced the plastic pollution first hand.
Being both designers we are passionate about quality and sustainability. So we want to see if we can make something positive out of plastic and address the problem of plastic pollution at the same time.
Over the past year, with the help of a lot of friends and the clever people at our production company and suppliers, we designed a beautiful collection of sunglasses, made out of a new bio-acetate.
Wholesale price
We offer our sunglasses for the wholesale price of €77 / $106 / £64.
When our campaign succeeds the sunglasses will cost €135 / $185 / £112 in selected stores.
Don't like it? Return it!
We know the quality of our sunglasses and are sure you will love them but if for any reason you're not happy with them we will exchange any pair of Dick Moby sunglasses that you send back to us. And if necessary return your money. Because our margins are really tight we will have to charge you for the shipping costs.

We've teamed up with the Surfrider Foundation. And we are proud to announce that 10% of our revenue will be used on projects with them. Projects that will address the plastic pollution and help us find ways to create a bright future for plastic and for our oceans.
The reason we wanted to work with the Surfrider Foundation is that we are surfers ourselves, and we wanted a partner that has experience and understands how we think. Because working with like minded people always gives better results.
So.. Look good, do good and join our movement!

Normal sunglasses are made from a regular acetate which is an oil based plastic. The product we use is M49, a new innovative bio-acetate produced from only renewable resources.

We truly believe that quality and sustainability should go hand in hand, so we didn't want to create packaging you would just throw away. We came up with a beautiful packaging made out of thick and sturdy recycled cardboard, a soft inside and a magnetic seal so that it can be used as packaging by also as a protective hardcase.

It's been an epic journey and after 10 months of hard work, high-fives, a lot of beer, a few whiskeys, laughs, some frustrations and trips to France, Italy and England the results are here!
We started sketching and making the first cardboard prototypes in May 2013.
In September we’ve met up with some experienced eyewear designers from London, who helped us to bring our sketches into 3D models with the right dimensions and ergonomics to create the ultimate fit. We’ve visited factories and suppliers in November and by January we had worked out the deals with all of them. Everybody is waiting for the results of this campaign, so we can start production. Almost go time!
Check our our progress photo album on Facebook.
We absolutely love our sunglasses and we're sure you will too.

All designs are finished, the first prototypes have been made and we are in the last stages of tweaking the sunglasses to a perfect fit. We'll continue to fine tune the models during our campaign as well. No big changes, just some finishing details
Metal DM initials on the inside of the temple tips
Small ‘D’ and ‘M’ gold coloured metal plagues will be pressed in the acetate cover with lacquer. Only visible when you close your sunglasses. Smooth sailing.

There are risks and challenges with every undertaking but in creating a product from scratch there are definitely a few.
We know the drill
Our personal and professional lives have seasoned us perfectly for this challenge. We both had businesses before, we know the drill! Tim has a background in graphic design and advertising and Robbert in fashion design. Combined we know what looks good and we have the knowledge to tackle design and development.
Best of the best
To make this project a succes we have searched and found the best factory and suppliers, we visited them all. We became ZEISS certified partner, and we’ve worked with eyewear experts from London to get the best possible pair of sunglasses. The design, fit, materials and production partner put our sunglasses on the same level as many of the A-brands out there, sometimes even higher. After testing our prototypes on all different shapes and types of faces we are confident that there is at least one fit perfect for you.
Delivery in June 2014
While, as with anything, there can be surprises we feel confident that we can deliver this product on schedule in June 2014. In the lead up to delivery we will respond to all of your enquiries as promptly as possible, keep you up to date on our progress, and work as hard as we can to get you your pair of Dick Moby sunglasses as soon as possible.

Are the sunglasses made from recycled plastic?
No, we’ve put a lot of time into researching if we could use the plastic waste from our oceans to make the high quality sunglasses we envisioned. Unfortunately this wasn't possible. We still continue to research innovative ways of recycling with experienced companies like www.crem.nl and www.terracycle.com.
What is eco friendly about the sunglasses?
We use an innovative bio-acetate that is produced from renewable resources.
Can I return the sunglasses if I don't like them?
Yes, we understand that it’s possible that you pick the wrong pair from just seeing the photo's and measurements. We will be more than happy to send you any different model or colour in return. You do need to help us with the shipping costs.
What happens when Dick Moby doesn't reach 500 supporters?
We are going to work hard not to let that happen!
But if it does, you will get your money back.
What can you do to help?
Of course getting one of our perks means the world to us! Also sharing our video and story with friends and family via social media would help us a lot. You can use the Indiegogo social sharing tools, its very easy.
