Well we have done really well and I want to thank everyone who has helped make this happen!

There are just 3 days left in this campaign so if you were thinking of funding please do!! We are very grateful for you all!!!!

Hello! My name is Suprina, and I'm a sculptor from Harlem, NY. I'm seeking funding for my latest project called DNA Totem. I discovered that found objects, trash to most people, held a fascination and eccentricity for me that I could easily align with my art. That's exactly what I'm trying to do with this sculpture, inspire discussion about the relationship between humans and waste. By funding this sculpture, contributors will help me create a 9' high DNA molecule strand made of steel and embedded with found objects. It will be installed in Marcus Garvey Park.

The Puffin Foundation has already awarded $1,500 that has gone to purchasing the steel spirals and base. The Parks Department will pay for the signage. This funding I'm requesting will pay for the exterior non-toxic putty, the welder who will help me build the frame and base, transportation and installation which will require three people.

This project is valuable in that the sculpture is meant to bring up for discussion why we humans, who have such a similar DNA to all the other creatures of the Earth are destroying our habitat. All other animals only produce waste the Earth can assimilate. Why, with our higher capacity for thinking, do we choose to leave our planet in worse shape than when we found it? From our birth to our death each person creates 102 TONS of trash. I feel this is an appropriate subject for the families that will be viewing this outdoor public sculpture.

In the past I successfully installed "The Circle of Intention", an interactive public sculpture 14' high and 12' diameter. It was funded and built completely with volunteers and shown on Governor's Island for 4 months in 2012. To view this sculpture, please follow this link to my website: http://www.suprinasculpture.com/publicart/1rfwixda217bfz5mum0opqbx5fcylc

I was in the business of giant prop making for over two decades for retailers such as Macy's, Bloomingdales, DKNY, Apple, and Hugo Boss. This gives me the unique ability to work with others, find the best solutions for the least amount of money, and problem solve efficiently. I worked for years doing on-site installations. Many thanks for your support!
