Short Summary
Anteroom Productions has been making films since 2007. Our first film, Out of the Darkness, was an award-winning documentary exposing the horrors of pornography as well as its historical roots and societal consequences.
Since then we have continued making films. At the beginning of this year, however, we began our next major project - A Voice from Deep Space. This film is something we all at Anteroom are very passionate about, because this film explores an issue that is affecting those closest to all of us - the rise of Atheism.
Most of you know that just recently The Pew Research Center released a survey that showed a sharp decline in religious belief in our country as well as a significant increase in the rise of Atheism. For many, this is a reason to rejoice, but for others, including us here at Anteroom, it is is a sad testament to the changes in our country.
One reason for the rise of Atheism has been the so-called New Atheist Movement. Men like Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins and the late Christopher Hitchens have been some of the movement's most ardent evangelists. One method they use very effectively in spreading their creed has been media, particularly film. Unfortunately, the response from Christians in this medium has been slow. Our hope with A Voice from Deep Space is to counteract the aggressive evangelization of New Atheism with a film that not only exposes the flaws in their philosophy and historical inaccuracies, but also to present a deeply moving and personal account of the true nature of religion, God, and faith.
And we are asking all of you to be a part of this important project.
We will explore the ideas of atheism and faith from the perspective of 4 scholars - a poet, a philosopher, a physicists, and a historian - and try to see how they have been personally effected by both atheism and faith. We want to explore how philosophy effects people in personal ways, how it effects our worldview and daily life. And perhaps most importantly, we intend to explore the positive role that religion, beauty, and faith can play in our lives and in the lives of young people today.
All the scholars we will be interviewing are people who in one way or another have been affected by Atheism. Some have, for a time, fallen under its influence, others have been forced into combat with the New Atheists, but all have paid some personal price. They will allow us to see atheism form the inside, so to speak, and can tell us, from first-hand experience, how religious faith has been an uplifting force in their lives.
The film is not, however, a dry scientific essay. Certainly, we will look at some of the big issues surrounding the debate - science, philosophy, morality - but really the film will be a deeply personal and moving film. Our intention is to create a beautiful film. Although we won't shy away from the polemics of the issue, the film will be almost poetic in tone.
This is not an easy task. In every way, it is an uphill climb, but it is something we can do together and truly make a difference. I've come to you first, people who feel deeply about this issue, have been effected by it, and want to do something about it. We know that our beliefs are often mis-represented in the mainstream culture. This is our time to present our beliefs in a way we can get behind. We have an opportunity to do something that so many before never dreamed of. And we have to seize that opportunity. So we here at Anteroom ask you to join us in this nobel endeavor.
Making a film is not cheap, and making a good film, is even more expensive. But we cannot produce anymore low-budget, technically deficient films. If we are going to do it, we should do it right. Right now we are trying to raise $145,000. This will cover our production costs and get us started on post-production. Essentially, it will ensure that the film will be completed and can reach those people who need it most.
But joining us now, you have the opportunity to participate in various ways. Some of you may decide to get an advanced copy of the film, others may deliver the film to college students across the US, and still others may decide to become involved on a big level.
However you participate, your money will not be wasted. Every dollar we raise goes to directly to producing the film and delivering it to the people. For so long Christians have felt boxed out of the film industry, and every avenue to creating beautiful films has been denied. But now, with changes in technology, distribution, and fundraising it is possible to make beautiful and enlightening and engaging religious films. Please help us do it! Give what you can.
