ABOUT ME - THE DIRECTOR
I'm Putri Purnama. I hail from
Sabah, a state on the east of Malaysia. I am fascinated in filmmaking because I
believe it is the best medium in conveying the story of life.
As a child, I
grew up in an underprivileged area, seeing a lot of bitterness in life. I want
to be someone who can change that. That is why I wish to be a filmmaker. By
becoming a director, I hope to carry their voices to the public, to inspire
them in helping the needy and themselves.
Films also
bring happiness to me. They are like a world where I can conjure my imagination
to life, a world where people can perceive themselves in it.
DREAM TO FLY
The short film portrays the story of children
living in poor conditions around my place, particularly about a child named
Aming. He may be poverty-stricken, but Aming has a dream bigger than his life
could afford.
SYNOPSIS
A documentary-styled film of a child in Sandakan,
Sabah, named Aming. He was abandoned by
his parents. In an interview session, the crew discovered a poor fisherman
named Pak Cik Tondeng had been taking care of the boy after finding him as a
baby under certain circumstances. Asked about his dream, the boy was unable to
answer as he fails to grasp the meaning of the word. They followed the pair’s
life. Ridiculed and mocked due to him lacking education and a good job, the boy
however had no qualms.
The only odd thing he does in his dull life was to watch
airplanes. It sparks a desire to be better, but conflicts arise before he could
realise that it was actually a dream, an ambition that spurs him forward.
