Short Summary
Hi, I'm Victor Spiegel, writer and director of Dreaming Abraham. I've been working in film as director, writer and ccomposer for many years. I finally got angry enough about people killing and hurting people for what they think they believe. This idea of Abraham, the father of Judaism, Christianity and Islam kept hammering to be let out. So now there's a satire about the religions trying to come together over a dinner.
We are raising funds to shoot this as a short film.
You will be part of raising intelligence and tolerance of others.
In Dreaming Abraham we observe a long-awaited dinner with Abraham and his immediate family – Sarah, Isaac and the expelled Hagar and Ishmael enter. Will they reconcile or will things get worse? At first, things get worse. The kids fight, Jesus enters and puts everyone on edge. Towards the end, Isaac has an idea. His game of Religionopoly takes the concept of religion into a completely unexpected sphere, bringing most of the family together as they join in the game.
The film itself will go into festivals around the world.
I wrote Dreaming Abraham to laugh and perhaps change some people’s attitude and see if we can nurture some tolerance. How can we stop religious wars, intolerance, hatred and terrorism? Laughter. Perhaps it seems counter-intuitive, but for me the best way to defuse confrontations and over-zealous beliefs are to tell a story. A funny story. When we can laugh at ourselves the reflection can happen after we laugh. And perhaps a change in behavior and view may follow.
The game of Religionopoly is playable and will be one of the gifts available for those who donate $100 or more.
All supporters will receive a DVD or link to the movie.
The History: When Abraham realised the interconnectedness of everything he destroyed his father’s idols provoking a showdown with the then current ‘belief police’. His new vision of Unity rippled out from the Middle East and into the rest of the world. Abraham married Sarah. Her handmaiden, Hagar, bore his first child, Ishmael. Later, Sarah bore a second son, Isaac. Sarah and Hagar had difficulties getting along. When the kids were teens, Sarah was fed up with Hagar's arrogance. To keep the peace, God permitted Abraham to banish Hagar and Ishmael into the desert beginning the now-called Arab nations. God tested Abraham’s love by instructing him to sacrifice Isaac. At the last moment an animal was substituted. Isaac was promised as the founder of the Jewish nations. We know that belief systems have not gone well since then. What if they all came home? Let’s dream for a moment – Dreaming Abraham.
