Loosely based on actual events, Early Light is the story of two young friends, Jon and Alex, who have just been released from juvenile detention, where they spent almost a decade. Given new identities and released into separate cities, we follow their painful reinsertions into society. Jon enrolls in college and gets involved in a relationship with Sophie, who is unaware of who Jon really is. In the meantime, Alex begins working in a factory and becomes friends with his boss José, who ends up unwittingly helping Alex to escape monitoring.
MEET OUR GREAT CAST :
"In 1994, when I was in film school in Paris, I read an article about 2 kids being released from jail in England after committing a crime. In fact, these 2 kids bullied and killed a child from their neighborhood, buried him in the woods and tried to deny the facts in court then sentenced to 15 years in jail.
In the UK at that time, people were in shock. Many people wanted them to receive the maximum punishment, although they ended up in jail for 15 years with a promise of another chance for a new life and released for good behavior after only 10 years. What really interested me was the second chance aspect of it, the idea of living a life that you never lived before. These two kids went to Jail at 12 and spent all their teenage life behind bars. Once released, they got a new identity, relocated to a new school district, and were assigned a new job. With monitors attached to their ankles, they could never reconnect with what was left from their past (friends and families) or risk being sent back to jail.
As I was following their release on a day to day basis, the community expressed anger about the release. Wanting the kids to stay in jail, some people even threatening to take the law into their own hands and to kill them. That´s when I started to think about making a film. What would happen if you get a new start at life? My interest was really focused on the result of this second chance and seeing if it really worked. Can someone change and be good? Can you become a new person if you change your identity? Is freedom something for them? Can you fit into someone else´s identity? Would you think that everybody knows who you really are?"

Early Light is a feature film produced by Julie Amalric, Coldcuts Productions and Mikaela Floom. Directed by Geoffray Barbier.
Julie, Mikaela and Geoffray met at film school in New York, Geoffray was Julie's teacher at that time. Julie started to intern at Coldcuts Productions and then became the core producer in the company. Julie and Geoffray have been working together for two years on a variety of projects and Early Light is their first feature film together. Producing a film from scratch is a lot of work and after several meetings we realized Mikaela was the perfect person to complete our team. With all our skills and artistic visions put together we started this great adventure.
Geoffray met Till Neumann our Director of Photography 17 years ago when he first move to new York. They always shared the same esthetic vision for a movie and they decided to collaborate on this project.

** Big up to Josse Barbier who was our best Production Designer / Caterer and driver !
We started production of Early Light in September 2013 with our own financing. Because the story involves two main characters, Jon and Alex, we decided to shoot both stories separate.
We shot 19 days out of 30 and are now finished with Jon's scenes. We are shooting on the Red Scarlett with our own equipment, video, audio and G&E.
After recasting Alex we are now ready to go on with the production and finish our movie. We already shot a couple of scenes as a screen test and everything looks great, we just need a little push.... !
We have put so much time, energy and mostly passion in this project that it would be a shame not to be able to go all the way, don’t you think ?
So, that’s why we are calling for help from everyone. There is a lot of hard work behind this production starting with the writing of the script by Yann Sobezynski. He did a hell of a job creating an amazing story, character driven and full of surprises. Hopefully with our pitch video you get a good idea of what has been done so far. Exciting !
Thanks Hana Food for letting us shoot at their grocery Store !
- Finish the production in good conditions, locations, catering, costumes, props, set design. Each shooting day costs around $1000 and $1500 and we have 10 more to go.
- Edit the film.. We have our edit unit, that’s great but we need the editor and the time !
- Support the cost of festival admissions.
Rehearsal before our dinner scene at Glasserie, Greenpoint !
Of course we wouldn’t want you to help us out and get nothing in return. Because your help is essential to end this project we tried to be as greateful as possible with all those awesome Perks !!
I mean it goes from a simple but sincere thank you from all of us , to a DVD, a T - Shirt, an IMDB credit, an invite to the Premiere or even an Executive producer credit !
Wow thanks for asking ! You can share our page and try to reach as many people as possible around you, that’s as good as anything else.
Thank you for reading our story and for taking an interest in our project.
Thank you for caring.
Anyone who can help, we cannot thank you enough, this project is really important for all of us and having it reach it's end would be a tremendous rush of happiness.
Sincerely,
Early Light cast & crew
